    Toronto | Theatre District Residence & Riu Plaza Hotel | 156.05m | 49s | Plaza | BDP Quadrangle

the golden brick is nice enough on its own but... transitioning from red brick at ground level and then transitioning to silver spandrel on the tower portion and with blue glass? no. those are hideous colour combinations. golden brick works well with a darker contrasting colour like black...

    Toronto | 191 Bay | 301.74m | 64s | QuadReal | Hariri Pontarini

this is a horrible proposal... destroying established vintage buildings to cram yet another plain glass box in a space that it doesnt fit, either physically or contextually. so much of Toronto's once great financial core skyline has been damaged by moves like this in recent years. this will be...
  3. Redroom Studios

    Toronto | 401 Bay Street | 143.86m | 33s | Cadillac Fairview | WZMH

yes, well said! the design is jarring and looks like half of it is still under construction, but the quality of the work and materials looks excellent.

    Toronto | Eight Cumberland | 170m | 51s | Great Gulf | a—A

dear lord...another blue glass box! just look at the context photos directly above... 50 buildings crammed in together that all look almost exactly the same. crimes against humanity. and people continue to line up to buy these things.

    Toronto | 19 Duncan | 186.53m | 58s | Westbank | Hariri Pontarini

this is a decent building... almost wasted though in the forest of banality that is the Entertainment District. the vertical lines are a nice change from dominant horizontal lines of many neighbouring buildings.

    Toronto | Waterworks Building Redevelopment | 47.55m | 13s | MOD Developments | Diamond Schmitt

havent been following this thread so I dont know if this was posted before... popped up on my youtube recommendations a few days ago.

    Toronto | 2941 Eglinton East | 143.8m | 44s | Achille Developments | Kirkor Architects

sad that this random stacked box design has become so popular now... none of the newer ones seem to have any thought or flow to them. total eyesore.
  8. Redroom Studios

    Toronto | 670 Progress Avenue | 171.3m | 54s | Fieldgate | IBI Group

such a mish mash of different patterns and textures on what are underneath just plain glass boxes once again. no soul here.
  9. Redroom Studios

    Toronto | 160 Front West | 239.87m | 46s | Cadillac Fairview | AS + GG

this building is really starting to take shape and make sense now... if the roofline is built as advertised I think we have a winner here. it will add a much needed variation to the skyline.

    Toronto | Pinnacle One Yonge | 344.58m | 105s | Pinnacle | Hariri Pontarini

the first tower has ended up being an example of false advertising compared to the renders. so much of the "angled planes" are really just an optical illusion created by the balcony glass. almost everything built in Toronto is a 2nd or 3rd rate bait and switch.
  11. Redroom Studios

    Toronto | Festival Condominiums | ?m | 59s | Menkes | IBI Group

this is an absolutely hideous style of development. towers in an industrial park. cant believe people accept this as good, let alone get hyped over it. how many miles do you have to walk before you see a tree?
  12. Redroom Studios

    Toronto | Lot 175 Portage Road (Niagara Falls) | 123.83m | 35s | Rudanco | Giannone Petricone

pretty sure the view is the main attraction in any tall building in any city in the world. in any case I'll believe this project is legit when it's actually built. I dont see the level of demand unless they are looking to capitalize on people bailing out of Toronto who still want the highrise...
  13. Redroom Studios

    Toronto | Concord Canada House | 231.97m | 74s | Concord Adex | IBI Group

heart breaking what they have wasted this space on... but hey, at least it has a lighting installation on the roof. that will make it all worthwhile.
  14. Redroom Studios

    Toronto | 2575 Danforth Avenue | 176m | 55s | Victoria Wood/Main Square LP | WZMH

interesting design idea... it's both futuristic and retro at the same time. the arch motif could have easily been something you would have seen in the 1970's. and they used brick on the lower portions of the new towers to transition from the existing buildings to the sleek upper portions of...
  15. Redroom Studios

    Toronto | 1613 St Clair West | 62.75m | 17s | Nova Ridge | SvN

yikes, what a train wreck! the lower section with the alternately spaced windows set against the offset balconies on the upper section just looks way too busy. it actually makes me dizzy to look at the rendering.
  16. Redroom Studios

    Toronto | The Ivy | 110.33m | 34s | Tricon | Graziani + Corazza

I thought name calling was a suspendable offence?
  17. Redroom Studios

    Toronto | Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 1) | 231m | 70s | Menkes | a—A

how many different claddings can they dream up to cover the same square boxes?
  18. Redroom Studios

    Toronto | Peter and Adelaide | 152.39m | 47s | Graywood | BBB

the entire cluster of buildings in the Entertainment District, save one or two is a giant pile. way too many similar looking and similar height buildings, with a hard border at Queen Street just hurts the eyes and kills the soul.
