The ease of getting on/off the train is 10/10. The integration could be a lot nicer at the Bonnie Doon stop, but being able to see a train coming and just walk directly onto the platform is huge.

Unfortunately, a lot of them are seasonal shops that close up after the holidays.

    LRT Safety

That number is disingenuous. It's taken from Calgary, where all of their stations are above ground and would need huge renovations to add fare gates.

Are you able to elaborate on this?

Woah, that's fantastic. Do you know when it starts? The transit app still shows 10 minutes.

That works out to about a 6% increase in service.

If the train had gone down Connor's Road redevelopment would have been focused there instead. Zoning can change and a $2B train stopping nearby makes it quite likely that it does. Again, we have no shortage of sites with potential for high density. But those projects tend to stall, as the...

Sure you would lose development opportunity on 95th street but you'd gain it along Connor's Road. Which is a pretty good trade, because it would be closer to Campus St. Jean and the U of A main campus. And 4 minutes is a big deal. If it isn't for you, does that mean you'd be happy with adding...

    Edmonton | Stadium Yards | ?m | 6s | Rohit Communities

I'm a big fan of the development at Century Park but it's still mostly parking lots. And in Holyrood it's just the one tower with no news on subsequent phases (I would be very happy to be proven wrong on this). The other sites do have potential, but Stadium is the only one that's actually...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

I should be clear, I'm not comparing someone commuting from Muttart to Bonnie Doon. I'm using the car travel time as an estimate for how long the train would take on the same alignment - an LRT with signal priority should definitely be able to match a car's speed along this route. That's why the...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Google maps says it takes 4 mins to drive from Muttart Stop to the Bonnie Doon Stop. On the train, with our chosen alignment, it's 9-10 minutes. Even with a stop between BD and the Muttart, going down Connor's Road would be at least 4 minutes faster.

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

We've got no shortage of areas with TOD potential. And adding a significant amount of travel time to Strathearn makes every TOD site south of it that much less viable.

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Connor's Road was taken off the table very early on because they didn't want to mess up traffic. From the city's concept plan from 2010: > Connors Road – Remaining north of Connors Road in order to target 95 Avenue and avoiding the major commuter route with reversible lanes...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

This inspired me to plot the Valley Line against a map of population density. Avoiding Connor's Road (Red) was definitely a big mistake. The chosen alignment (Green) bypasses the high density French Quarter, is way slower and adds a gnarly 90 degree turn that cuts down the lifespan of the track...

Any housing built from HAF money will be rental.

This is different from the Housing Accelerator Fund. These are just loans provided by CMHC through RCFI - most rental projects in Edmonton are using essentially the same plans.

    LRT Expansion Planning

I spoke with some senior folks at ops/maintenance for LRT and they said that with some fairly minor signalization upgrades (~$1M) they can get down to 5 minutes on the capital line. The main bottleneck to faster headways is the University Ave crossing.

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

I've taken the Valley Line SE several times now and the rose-tinted glasses are off. Taking 95 Ave and 85 Street instead of Connor's Road was a huge mistake that easily adds 5 minutes to the journey time. Muttart to Bonnie Doon takes ~10 minutes (vs 4 minutes by car). This is for an area with...
