Anyone have any links to the underground idea referenced here? Hard to fathom any way that isn't totally preposterous

Editorial discussing transit/transpo in Banff: https://www.rmoutlook.com/opinion/editorial-banff-traffic-conundrum-a-never-ending-issue-for-everyone-7890600 These are great problems to have, but it's gotta be really difficult planning transit for such variable demand (summer peak months)

They are not narrow road lanes, either...maybe they should put all of those signs on the road instead

Wide sidewalks? https://maps.app.goo.gl/sqA2GZvAqUMfwK5F6 I was thinking about this a bit today and trying to come up with similar situations as our Centre Street. This is a random thought along those lines, but I've found the pedestrian experience on West Broadway in Vancouver - a 5-6 lane...

Another big thing would be MAX orange...a level crossing would really hurt it, while separation would remove the current challenge between orange and the NC busses

Such a long rambling post that somehow seems to be a perfectly concise synopsis of so many issues. It's a really great point about not overreacting to the perception of things like grade separation being of benefit to cars. It's such a weird thing here where the only way to mitigate horrific...

This area is fantastic. There is even a little kiosk serving coffee+pastries open most of the time. The existing washrooms are adequate, but maybe not operable in the winter? If that isn't the issue then I would say there are probably other places without current washrooms that could use this...

I don't see any reason to worry about the east side 'vibrancy' until the other three sides are actually vibrant...which I'm skeptical will actually happen

It would also be nice if they could work out a limited permit system (but still $$$) - maybe managed through the Alpine Club of Canada - to allow a few personal vehicles up very early for true outdoor pursuits. I believe a private enterprise tried to fill the early morning shuttle gap this year...

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

Macnhester has an interesting mix of industrial and commercial (incl. breweries!) Obviously this is called a 'Dream' network for a reason, but if you compare it to a google maps bike layer there is certainly a lot of opportunity to do more, especially in the residential areas. A bit more...

I mean if they aren't crossing the river they might as well stop at 7th and let those folks keep their homes as long as possible. There is a housing crisis afterall...

There is an 8 acre parcel on SW corner of 77th and 9 Ave (a couple blocks east of the strip mall discussed above). As of a ~week ago the one big house on it was being prepped to be moved (maybe gone by now - looked like quite the process where the cut the L shaped house in half). Presumably this...

Agree with all your ideas, but that accident isn't really evidence of anything more than one incredibly reckless driver

Fair, I'm guilty of looking through the lens of my own use-case here.

There's a reason 3rd Ave was chosen as a DETOUR...it's the next closest option to the river path. River path is about 250 meters longer, while 3rd has a stop sign and 8 traffic lights. It would only take 60-90 seconds of stationary time before the river path is faster, even at a slow cruising...

I'll play with a very quick drawing. Retain plan as current but turn north from Beltline up 1st St SW using existing underpass. Expropriate the parking lot I'm cutting through (assessed value of just those surface lots is about $14M, so probably slightly cheaper than the current condo...

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

You're right that it's not all bad and could certainly be worse, and we're no different than most north american cities...but I'd argue the biggest problem is absolute car dependence. The blue and red lines work really well as long as your destination is along one of those lines. Our sprawl and...

Pumphouse Theatre literally poisoned the city's water supply to build an impenetrable toxic moat for their fiefdom. I mean, how else did the creosote get there? Bond villain stuff! Seriously though, Stampede has certainly under-delivered in many regards, but the complaints here some...

Seems a little disingenuous when you have to cut in and out of the new developments that were not precluded by Stampede to try to blame empty lots on them...is Stampede really the reason Erlton developments stopped where they did? What about the lovely riverfront south of Elbow River Casino -...

If there was ever a golden opportunity to move on from chuckwagons it was after those 2 missed years. Maybe after the next multi-horse massacre. It's an ag festival, so you'll still need the barns. About half of the interior of the track is pretty well used for staging during the rodeo...
