Didn't they have flooding in the Saddledome before? Hope this is being built on much higher ground.

Yes, luckily but one would think they should know what is being built.

Jasper Avenue New Vision / Imagine Jasper Avenue

Our city councils are generally remarkably consistent. Decades of getting businesses to locate elsewhere and we wonder why our downtown is in the state it is. A lot of the blame goes to the city politicians.

    Warehouse District Park

Yes, one can only hope. I will not miss the several blaring fire trucks almost every day. Who knew there were so many fires in Edmonton. You'd think the whole city had burnt down by now.

Jasper Avenue New Vision / Imagine Jasper Avenue

Interesting idea. Unlike Calgary or TO, we don't really have a landmark tower - both of those do get a lot of tourism. And sadly, the top floor of our tallest building which is actually taller than any in Calgary, is not accessible to the public. Actually, I don't think any of the taller...

    Windsor Park 118 Street DC2 - 6 storeys

This area never made sense to me as SFH enclave next to the University, well maybe it made sense in the 1950's or 1960's. Especially the area near the main roads and closer to the University.

    Federal Politics

I continue to have a great deal of admiration and respect for Biden, despite all his recent likely age related difficulties. He yet again has put his country first and has done what is right. I wish some other politicians who have been around too long would put their ego and delusions aside...

Yes, mixed feelings about this too. It is great if the historic building will be reconstructed, but the box on the back needs improvement.

$70 million and all we really got was a few hockey tickets for UCP cabinet ministers. Sounds like a heck of a deal Dani! Lots of money wasted, but hey no laws were broken, at least not after the government changed them.

    Edmonton | Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Yes, this time please keep the admin and empire builders under control, put in a small, nibble coordinating structure using mainly existing staff and it will be better.

    Edmonton | ICE District Phase 2 | 149.95m | ?s | ICE District Prop.

Yeah, I really don't see where this new stadium would be built either. Some of the proponents are either unable or unwilling to explain that, but it seems fairly clear the Ice District Phase 2 space would not work very well. If a retractable roof could be done more affordably, that would be...

    Edmonton | Blatchford Development | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Good point, this is not the only piece of land where development is moving ahead slowly. Also, lest we forget we are building a new park right downtown off of Jasper Ave, mainly because it was undeveloped parking lots for 30 years. While having a park there will be nice and a good solution, it...

    Edmonton | ICE District Phase 2 | 149.95m | ?s | ICE District Prop.

The discussion about a new stadium somehow seems to keep popping up in this particular forum, but I don't speak for Katz, so I don't know if there is some other space he has in mind. Perhaps you know his mind better. My point is not whether retractable roof is outrageously expensive or not...

    Edmonton | ICE District Phase 2 | 149.95m | ?s | ICE District Prop.

... which would add even more to the costs and if the government won't pay for any of the direct costs, then who would cover what would be a very considerable amount? Also I suspect the space used for such a stadium could also considerably reduce the space that could be developed for housing...

    Edmonton | ICE District Phase 2 | 149.95m | ?s | ICE District Prop.

I do like the outdoor entertainment park idea and expansion of the LRT station platform (which is needed anyways). So I hope that all fits within their criteria. However, I can't see a new football stadium going ahead without provincial or other government money to directly cover some of the...

    Edmonton | ICE District Phase 2 | 149.95m | ?s | ICE District Prop.

Affordable housing in the area would be nice and this may be a good area for some of that. Maybe I missed it, but I don't recall a new football stadium ever being mentioned by the Alberta government.

    Edmonton Real Estate Market

It strikes me how the amount of office space in Vancouver is only about the same as Calgary which is half its size and it is considerably behind the bigger eastern cities. And a lot of IT demand for Vancouver in recent years. So I think it was out of whack with the size of the market and is...

Not surprising, given he has friends in high places. Sadly, I suppose now there is a precedent for every other lawyer who behaves badly to get away with it too.

    Edmonton Real Estate Market

Yes, the asking rent here is actually quite in line with other cities of a similar size although the vacancy rate is slightly above the national average by about 1.4%. Not much significant new construction in most places, except Vancouver which has always had vacancy on the lower side so...

Have worked downtown for years, in the private sector. The city does not seem that interested in attracting more private corporations, which is a shame because if some effort was made it could probably help quite a bit.
