    Old Strathcona / Whyte Avenue

Absolutely. There's so much room for more density in Old Strathcona. Thankfully the Hat is finally a-go, but need the Mezzo and rest of Southpark to go ahead. Then something where the Artisan was supposed to go and the parking lots around the South Side Chapel, preferably high-rise. Then we...

Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

I mean, Edmonton was basically the blueprint for entertainment-centric malls with WEM. It was the original megamall and really the first time you had an assortment of non-retail and food court options in a vast array. Didn't quite take hold to the same degree at other malls in Edmonton or much...

    Old Strathcona / Whyte Avenue

Go to WEM and tell me it's just a normal Tuesday. Lots of people have this particular Tuesday off. It's also been exceptionally mild so the weather argument doesn't really work. Anyway I was on Whyte today and it seemed... fine. Not crazy busy but not dead. Could be busier for sure.

Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

I agree. The best malls these days are either going upscale or providing other entertainment services beyond retail/food. The smartest malls are doing both. City Centre as is could be repurposed but I also can see it being demolished and rebuilt for the 21st century. I just don't know if...

    LRT Expansion Planning

There are plenty of low floor trains underground. There's no reason it cannot be buried - capacity is not an excuse. The trains can still get hung up in traffic and there can still be benefits from a lack of at-grade crossings every which way. There's a lot of blurred definitions of things...

    Edmonton | Stantec Tower | 250.84m | 66s | ICE District Prop.

We also need to activate at least the first floor of the CCM parkade with something... Rec Room, McDonald's, megalounge, just... something other than that brutal bunker of lifelessness.

    LRT Expansion Planning

I hope that Kingsway and Bonnie Doon will be rebuilt as elevated stations someday. In the case of the latter, it probably makes sense to just elevate Avonmore too, rather than have the trains go down only to go back up for Davies. And I hope the city ends up doing the Ellerslie Station elevated...

    LRT Expansion Planning

It looks like the plan is to open one of the stations for now, but not the other. From the link:

Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

The thing with the Well is that while I can sort of see how it'd work in Toronto, I think a development like that would have a tougher go in Edmonton due to our climate. I know we're experiencing a very mild winter and it's likely to continue being more like this, but it does technically still...

Oh really? I missed that news. That sucks... it seemed promising!

    2024 Predictions

Choosing to be cautious with my predictions, picking up some that have already been mentioned... - New Stony Plain Road Bridge opens - First renderings of MacLab's first phase of development at Mill Woods - The Shift breaks ground - good start to the new Warehouse Campus Park in the spring -...

    The Parks | 146.91m | 45s | 35s | 13s | Pangman | Hariri Pontarini

So wild that they still have a bunch to go considering how tall it already feels in the area.
  13. dunno

    Downtown

Honestly, despite arguably as easy of access to the UofA as Strathcona and Garneau plus having MacEwan right there, Downtown doesn't really feel like it caters strongly to under 25s. The establishments are either mixed (which include under 25s) or more focused on 25-40 year olds. Which is...

    Edmonton | Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Very interesting. With how undeveloped Blatchford remains, I can't help but think this was a missed opportunity to get this section of the Metro Line "right" before it becomes harder/more expensive while Blatch fills in.

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

Probably one of the more common journeys will be Mill Woods to Downtown. Similar distance as Century Park to Downtown. Mill Woods to Downtown takes 30 mins by LRT, which is faster than the bus, but Century Park to Downtown takes about 20 minutes. Considering the population growth causing more...

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

I've ridden the Valley Line a fair bit in the past few weeks and have been making observations about it. I agree with you wholeheartedly here. The Valley Line, considering it does work and exists where no rapid transit previously did, is a net benefit for the city and especially those along...

    Edmonton | Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Really that whole section should just be elevated from Princess Elizabeth to just before the Prince of Wales Armoury with an elevated Kingsway RAH station. Alas, this city is cheap and so we will have to deal with the half-assed decision making for at least a generation or two
