Dundas St Rapid Transit (Metrolinx, Mississauga, Halton Region, CoT)

It's a mistake to not to widen this stretch of Dundas to allow for dedicated bus lanes. With all the residential construction planned for this busy intersection. Plus the increase in bus activity once the BRT is up and running, it'll become a congestion nightmare. Buses will be held up by...

    General railway discussions

Sorry, I misspoke. I was actually referring to INTRA-provincial as well. I didn't realise inter-provincial & intra-provincial meant totally different things. But yes, that's a good example of the trucks you often see in the highways.

    General railway discussions

A lot of the freight you see being trucked on the highways is probably intra-provincial hauling. Unless you're moving goods across the country or to another province, it doesn't make sense to put your freight on a train. The only province that can move goods/ freight intra-provincially by rail...

    General railway discussions

I thought this was an interesting announcement. Former 2012 Olympic land in East London to be converted into a "master planned" freight rail, logistics hub. https://www.newcivilengineer.com/latest/network-rail-plan-for-major-east-london-rail-freight-and-logistics-hub-approved-25-10-2024/ As...

    VIA Rail

All the way to Peterborough? Unlikely. Not worth it. But if HxR means laying down new track that allows for trains to travel at higher speeds, then perhaps we could have something akin to MARC's Penn line where their commuter trains share a stretch of the N.E. corridor with the Acela, and take...

So much for all those folks who keep telling everyone/themselves electrification of the GO network is only a few years away.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Drivers are going to realize very quickly that they never could drive in these lanes to begin with because of all the idiots who stopped in these lanes with their hazard lights on. The protected cycle lanes helped to bring that annoying practice to an end. Unless you were a real asshole and just...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

When I was in Montreal last week, I noticed a lot of the bike lanes only occupied one side of the street and were bi-directional. It seemed as if the city could achieve protected bike lanes while also adding in an extra lane for traffic if it wasn't for the crazy amount of street parking. The...

    VIA Rail

I was referring to your previous post where you mentioned the "average of the maximum speeds". My wording was different or I misunderstood you. This doesn't happen as often as it used to. CN's RTCs have gotten much better at coordinating their trains with VIA's. Now MX on the other hand...

TTC: Electric and alternative fuel buses

Not TTC, but might be realavent. https://www.oakvillenews.org/local-news/pulling-the-plug-oakville-transit-to-buy-diesel-after-electric-bus-grant-money-runs-out-9724870

My point being is if we construct this properly, then the average top speed COULD be the average speed.

    VIA Rail

Freight was never a factor during my recent VIA trip from MTL-TOR. GO trains were more problematic than CN. Train #67 traveled an average speed of 120km/h along stretches of Ontario until it got to the GO network in Pickering and traveled at an average speed of 90km/h Is that what you took...

    VIA Rail

You do realise that the exisisting VIA fleet already hits an average speed of 150km/h? But yes, I agree with a lot of what you're suggesting.

    VIA Rail

No doubt the Liberals are trying to move HSR forward now because they're dropping in the polls and need a boost in the upcoming election. Which makes this recent announcement seem disingenuous. If the Conservatives win the next election, they'll probably scale this project back down to HfR...

The 407 bypass works for CN The CPKC bypass can run parallel with the 407, but first it should run parallel with the proposed 413. RED: CPKC BLUE: CN GREEN: GO Existing GTA track map Revised GTA track map showing freight bypasses and GO improvements.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

It doesn't really connect to anything useful. They should extend the transitway westward to Trafalgar/407 in Oakville; and north alongside the 410 so buses can merge into the 407 while avoiding the 403/410.

    VIVA + York Region Transit

Don't follow VIVA too much. Are there still plans to construct a BRT along Major Mackenzie? Be nice to have a rapid transit connection between Maple GO and Richmond Hill GO. Essentially connecting the Barrie and RH GO lines.
