    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Not if you have a fixed work schedule. "Just pack up and move." If only it were that easy. I would have moved out of my apartment long ago. But unfortunately that would mean my rent doubling. I'm currently stuck in my apartment due to the current rental/ real estate market, and so are a lot of...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

What's the point of attempting to "toll" drivers off the 401 if you're not going to first setup viable transit alternatives? You're just going to clog up the side roads with car traffic.

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Trucking is priced at "$/km". A toll would increase this. If tolls weren't a factor and the time savings offset the toll costs, then how come to this day we see most trucks opting to get bogged down on the 401 instead of paying the toll to fly across the 407?

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

There shouldn't be a toll for freight trucks on the 401. Otherwise we'll see the costs of goods on the store shelves go up. I would rather see the provincial government work towards establishing the Midtown GO train line and the 407 GO bus transitway before we start implementing tolls on 400...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Don't we already pay a toll for our highways in the form of the "gas tax"? I think @Wm Perkins Bull is correct. Demand to drive on the 401 is so great which causes it to be congested all the time. The 401 is used heavily by Americans and Quebecois. It's the main freight artery for the entire...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

That's terrible. Lack of foresight. And yet I'm not surprised.

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

The issue isn't so much the rolling stock as it is the speed of the line. 60km/h is too slow. If we're trying to entice people to get out of their cars, then transit has to go faster. Especially with the amount of money we spent on this project. Calgary C-train hits an average speed of 80km/h

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Metrolinx is using the same wayfinding symbol for both Subways and LRTs. I would consider that disingenuous .
  9. B

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

"It goes faster than buses stuck in traffic." That's not good enough.

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

This is what I'm saying. Why spend all this money and build all this infrastructure to simply have trains travel at the same speed as the road traffic? We could have just saved a ton of money and constructed a BRT instead. People will argue capacity. Trams can carry more people than an...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Does this mean trains going through the underground and grade separated portions of the line will be relegated to travel at the same speed as the trains travelling along the eastern/ at grade portion of the line? I don't think it's necessary to combat slow zones by digging up the track and...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Ottawa is not a good example of standardization not working because everyone, including Alstom themselves was telling the City of Ottawa that the trains they wanted wouldn't work properly on the line. It's not a case against standardization. It's a case of city officials ignoring all the...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I'm certain I heard it from someone on this thread or another a couple months ago. When I have more time, I'll try to dig it up.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

If trains run slower in the eastern portion compared to the rest of the line, won't it lead to "bunching up" of trains? Something similar to what we see with the streetcars in downtown. They're totally unacceptable and make transit less desirable. We shouldn't try to normalize this.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

It's has to be one of the GO train's biggest strengths. It makes the system so versatile and efficient. Not just in terms of operations but also in managing staff and ordering spare parts. Plus using existing infrastructure. How many different types of rolling stock does the city of Toronto...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

It's really frustrating how Metrolinx is constructing every transit line to different parameters & specifications. Even different voltage setups for the electrical systems for both the Finch and Eglinton LRT lines. Why does Metrolinx appear to see no value in any kind of standardization/...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Sure, but we wouldn't have to mess about with the elevators and escalators.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Would it be cheaper to lower the tracks at the stations?
  19. B

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Hypothetical question. If we were to grade separate the eastern portion of the Eglinton Crosstown (elevation, tunnel, etc.), could we bring it to the same parameters, specifications as the Ontario line? Essentially have Eglinton running the same Hitachi trains as the Ontario line. Would it be...
