A lot of the big projects going up in other cities have been in the pipeline for years. One reason I think Calgary doesn't have a lot of cranes at the moment is that a few years back the economic situation here wasn't great and developers were giving us the cold shoulder. Anecdotally I hear the...

This one is a long way from construction start, no DP submitted or even renderings. I fully expect the land use to be approved with no wrinkles, but earliest start of construction for this one is still at least a year out, if not longer.

/\Yeah their design decisions didn't make a lot of sense...

I will grudgingly admit that last time I saw Cornerstone up close, it didn't look as bad as I thought it would.

Yesterday I thought Maestro was being too hard on this one. Then I looked back at some pics of the original facade on Page 1, and I admit he has a point. Those vertical mullions looked great, and losing them definitely detracts from the look of the building.

    Calgary | Plaza | 113.5m | 33s | Cantiro | GEC

Digging a little deeper, a couple more noteworthy features: -there will be about 15-20 assisted living units on the 3rd floor (not sure if that is for people with disabilities, older people or low income) -An amenity area on the 26th floor reminiscent of Imperia or the Palliser conversion (but...

Sooo, surprisingly the DP is now in for this one. The details: DP2024-05672 33 storeys, 113.5m/372' high 357 units 2 storey podium will take up the entire site and include retail anchored by a small grocery store The design reminds me very much of Truman's Lincoln, but with red aluminum...

    Crane Count

I bet they will start Imperia first, the building is approved and the site ready to go. The First & Tenth site still have active tenants (I think?) and Lincoln is not yet approved. August is vacation time for much of the development industry, so I am hopeful that we might see a few projects...

    Calgary | Plaza | 113.5m | 33s | Cantiro | GEC

This is good news! Since the Killam project has been stale for years I had no hope that anything would be happening on this site anytime soon. This is a nice surprise. Looks to be about 25-30ish floors? If this and La Caille's tower on the Circle K site go ahead, it would really help liven...

    Crane Count

There are actually a few others...a crane on top of that building being renovated next to Telus Sky, and also one for the Glenbow. Neither are new construction, of course, but still substantial building projects. As for new cranes in the near future, I would still wager the 3rd building of...

    Infill Development Discussion

Yeah they look like something that you'd see in one of the new communities. Certainly not something I'd expect to pay top dollar for.

Looking good! Those rowhouses look so much better than the "missing middle" ones being built in Mt Pleasant, Capitol Hill, Tuxedo etc.

    Calgary | Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I do wish they'd found the money, somehow, to get the line built to Quarry Park. Not sure what the extra cost would be, but with the amount of employment and new residential going in there it seems like having a station would generate a lot more ridership. I also worry that some of the...

    Calgary | Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

It'll be interesting to see if the projected ridership of ~32,000 people a day ends up being accurate. While a drop in the bucket by Calgary's ridership numbers, that's about equal to Phoenix's entire LRT network (42 km) and substantially higher than the ridership for the entire LRT networks in...

Province said their commitment stands as long as the line still connects to the Red and Blue lines, and to their so-called "Grand Central Station" site. Feds need a new business case submitted in the next couple of weeks to, in their words, ensure it still meets the intent of their...

Spotted 2 pile drivers on the site today. Lots of activity.

I wonder the same thing. I know there's a shortage of skilled trades in construction, and I assume cost pressures related to concrete in particular must have something to do with the fact that we have had exactly one groundbreaking for a concrete tower thus far this year (Yellowstone) in spite...

This project came out so well. The renderings looked ok but really don't do the finished project any justice. It's usually the other way around.
