They're a pension fund, and like most pension funds they are extremely risk averse. I get why they are that way but its terrible for city building, and I hope The City will never again engage in a development partnership with one.

Well, it's better news. But as we've seen with Midfield and everything else The City gets involved in, they might be better than Matco at getting shit done but they are still irritatingly slow. I'm still betting 5 years or more before anything happens on those lands, although I'd love to be wrong.

It's owned by a subsidiary of Matco, which explains why nothing is happening there. For those not in the know, Matco owns (or owned, not sure if they still do) the vacant land by Westbrook station that has seen no action in over a decade.

This looks like more than just prepping for a sales ctr. The DP will almost certainly need to go to Planning Commission for approval and that hasn't happened yet. Wondering if, like Mountain Man suggests, they were able to obtain a shoring & excavation permit like Scotia Place did? Not sure...

Exciting! This and Munro across the street should make this stretch of 16th look a lot less shitty. Still much work to be done, and the former mobile home park site is taking way too long to get moving on redevelopment, but everything helps.

The saving grace of this thing is that even with the beige Hardyboard or whatever siding, the first 2 storeys are actually quite well done, with active CRU frontages and decent materials. Even with all the stuff they did wrong, they arguably got the most important part right.
