    General Construction Updates

Agreed, but even for The City to sell the land will probably be a lot longer and more drawn out than it should be, which is why I still think it'll take a long time for stuff to get underway.

They're a pension fund, and like most pension funds they are extremely risk averse. I get why they are that way but its terrible for city building, and I hope The City will never again engage in a development partnership with one.

    General Construction Updates

Well, it's better news. But as we've seen with Midfield and everything else The City gets involved in, they might be better than Matco at getting shit done but they are still irritatingly slow. I'm still betting 5 years or more before anything happens on those lands, although I'd love to be wrong.

It's owned by a subsidiary of Matco, which explains why nothing is happening there. For those not in the know, Matco owns (or owned, not sure if they still do) the vacant land by Westbrook station that has seen no action in over a decade.

Unpopular opinion, but I don't mind the red. I also like the massing. However, the horizontal band of brick looks seriously out of place and they desperately need the vertical strips to tie it together, because without them it will just look weird. I am hoping once it's complete things will...

Went by at lunch and all was quiet on the site, although anyone working on site could have been off for lunch. The yellow and blue signs on the fencing are for an environmental remediation company.

This looks like more than just prepping for a sales ctr. The DP will almost certainly need to go to Planning Commission for approval and that hasn't happened yet. Wondering if, like Mountain Man suggests, they were able to obtain a shoring & excavation permit like Scotia Place did? Not sure...

    Such a cool little project!

Wow, that was fast. I'd been getting used to construction taking forever here in Calgary.

    Calgary | Project 54 | 43m | 12s | Cidex Group | NORR

I mostly agree, with the proviso that 6 storey wood frame that actually looks good. I am a big fan of Broward, I like Enzo so far, and a lot of stuff in University District looks great, but honestly would prefer that projects like Sentinel or Jemm's proposed 6 storey by Centre St & 16th don't...

    Weather and Gardening Discussion

I grew up in Ottawa and was really surprised by the extremely mild winter when I moved here (to be fair, the year we moved here happened to be one of our best-ever El Ninos so we basically skipped winter that year). Ottawa winters are snowy, grey, damp and statistically colder than ours on...

Looking forward to see how this will look once the brick is revealed (it is gonna be brick, right? Please, please let it be brick and not hardy board)

Exciting! This and Munro across the street should make this stretch of 16th look a lot less shitty. Still much work to be done, and the former mobile home park site is taking way too long to get moving on redevelopment, but everything helps.

The saving grace of this thing is that even with the beige Hardyboard or whatever siding, the first 2 storeys are actually quite well done, with active CRU frontages and decent materials. Even with all the stuff they did wrong, they arguably got the most important part right.

I made my wife swear to me that she will never put me in one of those places.

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

Probably a good thing, as both provincially and nationally population growth has been far outpacing economic growth, which is why we've suffered both increasing unemployment and shrinking per capita GDP. If we assume a current population of 5 million, 2.8% is an additional 140,000 people of...

Wow. Astonishing how the west side has changed between this and the stuff going in Springbank Hill!

    Calgary | Midtown Station | ?m | ?s | IBI Group

I hate to be that guy but this seems about as likely to happen in real life as a game of SimCity. At least, anytime soon unless a real developer buys them out.
