    Calgary | Imperia | 95.3m | 27s | Truman | NORR

So I went by the site the Imperia site yesterday and they had a Building Permit posted on the fence. There was also some serious excavation going on and lots of workpeople on site. I checked into the permit # and it is indeed the BP for the tower. The overall BP is under review but a partial...

The Mount Royal folks tend to limit their griping to their immediate community, thankfully. I don't get the sense they care much what happens in Beltline.

    General Construction Updates

According to DMAP there was a DP released for addition of child care service, elevated outdoor play area and covered parking along with changes to waste and recycling services on site. So maybe they are replacing the parking lot with structured parking with the play area on top of it?

Lots of demolition is OK provided it is quickly followed by lots of new construction...

    Calgary | Kings Landing | 21m | 6s | Uptown Residential | NORR

MacLeod Trail is insanely wide, and the amount of space wasted is depressing. The improved cross section would do wonders to the look of the street but unfortunately, people don't appreciate the value of these sorts of investments. In its current form, MacLeod more resembles an expressway...

    Calgary | AHC 6th Ave | 25m | 6s | Attainable Homes Calgary | Hindle Architects

I don't mind it. At least they are giving the appearance of two different buildings design-wise rather than another set of twins.

I'd love to see a lot more projects of this scale in the vicinity of Chinook. I am sure the towers will come someday, but for now it's nice to see a critical mass of new development, and people, in the area with these midrise developments.

O2 (the consultant leading the Land Use redesignation on this one) is really pushing the envelope on density in Calgary, and I'm happy to see it. They received approval for what will be the tallest building in Kensington with Jemm's "Kit at Kensington", they got a redesignation through at...

    Statscan numbers

Completely agree. And really, when we look at the so-called "big 3", Toronto is by far the dominant city in the country, starting to rival the degree to which London and Paris dominate their respective countries (the only difference being that obviously Toronto is not the capital city)...

    Calgary | West District | ?m | ?s | Truman

Looks good, based on the renders. I'm really impressed with what Truman is doing in West District, especially considering it's in the middle of suburbia and not particularly close to LRT...

    Calgary | Imperia | 95.3m | 27s | Truman | NORR

I'd say that this is pretty strong evidence that they are now moving forward. I really don't know what else they'd be doing there? If Imperia is indeed now moving forward with construction, I promise to stop whining about the lack of highrise construction in Calgary for the rest of the year.

    Calgary | Smits @ Montgomery | 23m | 6s | Dominium | Ace Architecture

Another decent filler project. Although, I do have some concerns about the at-grade treatment...

Looks decent enough for filler. And it appears to be using some actual brick, which is nice.

    Crane Count

It takes months to years to plan and finance a new tower. I am hopeful that a lot of the stuff currently in the pipeline will move forward, but as I keep reminding myself the process of design, securing financing, and getting necessary approvals in place all take time. I think Calgary was in...

    Crane Count

Yeah we definitely need more cranes in this town. I remember times when we've had well over 50 cranes up at a time. The population boom we are in right now hasn't translated into a lot of large construction projects like it has in the past, hopefully that starts to change in the fall.

    Calgary | 17th and 4th | 164m | 46s | Vesta | Zeidler

I go to the GTA frequently to visit family and Mississauga's town centre area with all the towers is brutal. Ditto with the new towers going up in Vaughan - they are so out of scale with the rest of the surrounding low density landscape that they look as ridiculous as parts of Dubai. In fact...

    Calgary | Glenbow Museum | 43m | 9s | DIALOG

Agreed. I think they should have went with all mesh, the windows to me just look "off" compared to the rest of the design. They also don't appear nearly as prominent in the renderings.

    Calgary | Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

I was, like probably most of us, extremely annoyed at the previous deal falling apart. In hindsight though, it really wasn't a great design due in part to the lower budget but also the compromises of such a tight site, and the lack of any design inspiration. I think most would agree that for...

    Calgary | 526 - 4th Ave | 112m | 32s | LaCaille Group | S2

That is weird. If I recall correctly, the little parking lot was a point of contention at CPC a couple years back. I do much prefer the configuration of the parking, though - access via the lane with that screening feature will look a lot better than the current strip mall with parking in...
