Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

A regional/metropolitan district would probably be needed to get connections out from the suburbs because City of Edmonton has no incentive to do so. On another note, finally took the new SUP running along the south side of Yellowhead Trail from 89 St all the way to Fort Road then up to 66 St...

119 Avenue bike route this morning near Coliseum. The hoar frost in the trees made for a pretty magical commute this morning.

100 Ave from 116 St to 109 St needs to be a two way path on the north side to match 109 St to 103 St. Having to switch sides on what's supposed to be a continuous bike path doesn't make for a good cycling experience for anyone. Except maybe to switch over to the south side west of 117 St so...

    Arc Smart Fare System

The old validators were getting a lot faster but man the new ones are practically instant.

99 St is the worst. I sometime have time to complete a 311 request waiting for the light to turn green.

They will encourage us to tap off to be in that habit and I do tap off whenever possible although if the validator is broken I don't fret, but you absolutely don't need to tap off unless it'll save you money, ie. you're on a commuter bus but don't cross municipal borders.

Roughly 8,016 trips the month of September (estimated 318 per weekday, 210 Saturdays, 136 Sundays and Labour Day). 37 passengers on average. Simple math says 11,766 per weekday, 7,770 per Saturday, 5,032 per Sunday and holiday. We did lose a full day of service south of Bonnie Doon because of...

    132 Ave Renewal

Rode from Fort Road to 66 Street, it’s amazing. I get why they’re staging it but there’s a lot more of these overbuilt roads that deserve the same renewal.

I’ve been riding it every month to see the progress. It is actually really nice. I wish the city would standardize on something like this for directional bike lanes.

That precarious balance between energy efficiency/ASHRAE 90.1, natural light, and minimum opening sizes required for fire escape. You can trade off but trade offs are not cheap. There's some demand for high end housing but we need affordable options too.

This isn't going to be a small insurance claim. They are doing their assessments today and looking at reopening unaffected floors as early as tomorrow.

I was wondering if we should not be taking the elevators to evacuate but the instructions didn't say we couldn't. We were on the lower half so there didn't seem to be water going down the elevator shaft, but there was some water in the washrooms and stairwells.

Stantec Tower was evacuated due to a water main break on the 28th floor. I don't think this affects Sky Residences.

No crossing at Manning Drive either, at all north of 153 Ave.

I didn't take photos but rode the new 50 St MUP from the hydro ROW to 153 Ave, the pathway is mostly complete and they're just doing landscaping and lighting. Also, rode that hydro ROW from Belle Rive to 50 St and it's a surprisingly nice path.

They did build a MUP from 125 Ave to Fort Road, and are currently working on Fort Road from 66 St to 137 Ave, with Manning Drive from 137 Ave to 153 Ave to come next year.

Critical mass Friday if anyone wants to join. I'll be there with my kid, just deciding whether I'm bringing my analogue bike or electric long tail. https://www.facebook.com/events/1210671846843549/

There's no Road Closed sign coming from NAIT. The new roads are now on Waze. The path is now fully paved but they put a jersey barrier at 109 St/Hugh Bolton Way. Hopefully there will be a cohesive connection to the 124 Ave path coming next year. No signals at 120 Ave.

28,000 per weekday, we're at roughly a third of that number as of April.
