Toronto Municipal Election 2018: Mayor’s Race

    Saron Gebresellassi did well tonight.

2018 Municipal Election: Toronto Council Races

    Don't forget Karen Stintz's endorsement!

Toronto Municipal Election 2018: Mayor’s Race

They sound "reasonable" on paper (let's take the best of both worlds and not be rigidily ideological, let's combine the public good with the dynamism of the private sector etc.) But audits of P3s show their track record is terrible.

Toronto Municipal Election 2018: Mayor’s Race

Olivia Chow had that problem, though her case was somewhat different. Olivia tried to have a "big tent" but her attempts to appeal to the center failed because she's at heart too much of a downtown progressive. Keesmaat has the problem of being a North Toronto yuppie trying to sound like a...

Toronto Municipal Election 2018: Mayor’s Race

Jennifer Keesmaat, endorsed by the NDP councillors and Labour Council, supports P3s (see the advertorial in today's Financial Post). That could cause trouble with the base. Can she make up for that by appealing to people in North Toronto, condo dwellers etc. who don't normally vote NDP and...

2018 Municipal Election: Toronto Council Races

Unfortunately for Felicia Samuel she has no previous voting base to build on, since she ran in Scarborough-Rouge Park provincially (and came within 900 votes of winning). Rouge Park also has a much larger Black community. I'm guessing it's because Neethan Shan opted for Rouge Park first. His...

2018 Municipal Election: Toronto Council Races

I think it'll be more like a 2006-type result. Jennifer Keesmaat gets Olivia Chow's vote + some yuppies and strategic voters from last time. She'll bomb outside the old city of Toronto. I also think turnout will be rather low in NW Toronto and Scarborough. Neither Tory or Keesmaat seem to...

Toronto Municipal Election 2018: Mayor’s Race

I wouldn't call the group you're speaking of Tory's "base." Tory''s "base" is basically the affluent (just look at where he did best in his unsuccessful mayoral bid in 2003 as well as the 2014 result).

2018 Municipal Election: Toronto Council Races

It's funny to hear that Jennifer Keesmaat's housing plan is too "radical." I think for a progressive candidate it's too market-oriented and puts a progressive spin on enriching private developers.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Robert Benzie‏Verified account@robertbenzie Tellingly, there was no standing ovation for Premier Doug Ford from the normally enthusiastic PC benches after he refused to denounce Faith Goldy. Many Tory MPPs looked uncomfortable with the premier's response. #onpoli #topoli 12:09 PM - 24 Sep 2018

So she sticks to the "no tax" pledge - and still loses?

Toronto Municipal Election 2018: Mayor’s Race

Have to say I'm not very impressed with Jennifer Keesmaat so far, who has no plan to reverse to Tory's "keep taxes low" approach. https://torontolife.com/city/qa-mayoral-contender-jennifer-keesmaat-plan-oust-john-tory/

2018 Municipal Election: Toronto Council Races

Is there a strong progressive running in Scarborough Southwest? The NDP won big there so it would be unfortunate it's mainly between two small-"c" conservatives.

Let's stop engaging with the children's table. I'd like to hear more about council races.

2018 Municipal Election: Toronto Council Races

John Nunziata seeks to intimidate Chiara Padovani and her supporters: https://twitter.com/_rileypeterson/status/1043219300516020224 (BTW I saw him at one of the recent rallies against Ford's cuts, I assume he was there for a nefarious reason).
