It's a good opportunity to demolish the parkade and build an elevated station over the CP tracks that serves the Beltline and Downtown. Or...if structurally possible...retain the existing parkade and convert it to an LRT station.

Good to hear the project is restarting! I'm glad they're using high-floor trains. Increased speeds and capacity along with interchanging with Blue and Red lines.

That's very true. My guess would be that people are 'Taking one for the team' by purposely lowering their property value.

What's wrong with desiring to live around people that share a similar identity, culture or religion?

That's very ture. But whether the SE LRT uses high-floor or low-floor vehicles, the ARPs, TOD sites, road alignments, streetscape upgrades, bike paths, public amenities, utility upgrades doesn't really change much. Design fees are a tiny portion of the overall construction budget.

I think CT only running 3 car C-trains until the Haysboro storage facility expansion is complete.

I highly (and respectfully) disagree. I think every building owner and CRU along Stephen Ave. would be up in arm about the disruption. Rightfully so. The construction disruption would be a massive blow to the urban realm in downtown...even if it is worth it in the long run.

    Calgary | Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

Yeah. You could do either one. That's the beauty of maintaining the same rolling stock of LRT cars. You could run the red line under 8th and the SE-LRT on 7th ave. Or vice-a-versa. Mix and match. The only problem is that the 8th ave subway is going to be ridiculously expensive. That's why I...

I think a parallel bridge would be needed over the 4th street underpass. Then the train would have to descend to meet up with the Red-line tunnel. I don't know how deep the existing tunnel is, but there is about 180m of 'run-way' to make the descent. Not sure if that is enough.

    Calgary | Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

Yes. It could be used. IMHO the downtown alignment seemed pretty ill thought out. The underground section was way too ambitious...especially when low-floor LRT was to be the preferred technology. It's my understanding that rider capacity is limited on a low-floor LRT as passengers cannot stand...

    Calgary | Kings Landing | 21m | 6s | Uptown Residential | NORR

I think that entire area is prime for redevelopment. But to expand on your points, I think the city needs to invest in sidewalk, connectivity and landscaping improvements before redevelopment can occur. The streets are already built in grids and there's a lot of room on either side of the road...

45 minutes from Tuscany to Westbrook is rough. It's almost faster to take the C-train from Tuscany to downtown, transfer to the Blue line and then ride to Westbrook.
  13. Red Star

    Calgary | Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I think the North-Central line is perfect for Low-floor LRT vehicles. The SE LRT could get away with using the traditional high-floor LRTs since much of it utilizes a CPR train corridor as it's right of way.
  14. Red Star

    Calgary | Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

You proposal would be a massive cost savings. I only see two problems: 1. 7th Ave. in downtown is already at full C-train capacity. 2. South of Shepard, a high-floor C-train doesn't really work so full as there are lots of at-grade crossings and high-floor stations don't integrate into the...
  15. Red Star

    Calgary | Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I generally agree with your sentiment. Rapid-transit should be 'rapid'. People living in Seton and North Pointe are going to drive if the train ends up being too slow or gets caught in a traffic accident. However; I think the whole purpose of a low-floor LRT system is that it moves less people...

It's kind of disappointing that there's no plans to keep the historic ranch house close to the river. I think it's this one:

    Calgary | Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

Unfortunately, I think the most cost effective option would be: -Surface-run the Greenline along 11th Ave. -Tunnel north under Centre Street -End the tunnel past 4th Ave -Build a surface station in Chinatown -Close the crossing at Centre street and 3rd Ave. to vehicles. It's a shitty...
