TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

They should've just called the Scarborough LRT the Scarborough Electric Bus. It would already be up and running. :p Interesting take, especially at the end - the idea of keeping the RT with the SSE. Who would've thought that renaming the "Scarborough LRT" to the "Scarborough Electric Bus"...

They shoud've told him it was a hash factory. I'm sure he would've granted it immediate protection. :p

Problematic Park Design - Why Some Parks Don't Work

Great series, very well done. Sherbourne Commons is one of those ideas that looks great in renderings, but is a bit of a headscratcher when you're actually there. It's quite strange how difficult it is for Toronto to create great new public spaces and quality architecture.

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

No doubt. This is why these Metrolinx News blogs can be so misleading. Generally speaking it makes a lot of sense. But when we look at all the factors (capacity, etc.), deeper stations make sense in this particular situation - that or evaluating an above ground section for East Harbour.

Have to agree with some of the other comments here. On its own, I don't mind it. As an addition to Robarts, it's a failure. They've ruined the building.

Looks interesting. I know it's primarily an ESport venue, but it looks like a great multipurpose addition. I'm curious to see the north side - seems like it'll have a major impact on the CNE's usual layout.

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

"The earlier Relief Line South proposal featured very deep tunnels — 38 metres below ground — in order to get under the Don River to the vicinity of East Harbour, adding four and a half minutes of escalator time to each transfer. That’s more than enough time to miss your connection. Studies have...

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

I see where you're coming from. The problem is that Metrolinx is supposed to be a somewhat arms length government agency that implements transit plans based on transit needs. It's become a PR agency for the Ministry of Transportation. "Fake News?" Certainly debatable. I'd say the "News" below...

That's the problem. The government shouldn't be taking these decisions out of their hands. Metrolinx News serves as PR for government decisions.

I don't expect them to be. But as a government agency I certainly expect transparency and accountability - not endless PR spin.

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

Ultimately the best solution would addressed local transit, with enhanced GO Transit for trips downtown. The SSE is not going to have a dramatic impact on the latter. Too bad the Scarborough LRT didn't go through. Now we'd be focusing on a Sheppard extension to SSE, along with a DRL to...

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

It doesn't matter how many billions are being spent if the core issues aren't being addressed. The LRT plan was well on it's way to being built, with considerable support from the community - even with a transfer.

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

There was a 'ton' of support for the LRT as well. The article is addressing the failure to actually build useful transit for Scarborough based on what people need. The SSE isn't going to do much to address those current issues. Ford's drastic reduction of City Council makes it far more...

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

With the Scarborough RT closing, residents say they’re tired of being ignored. It’s time they had a voice in the future of their transit

    Hurontario LRT | Metrolinx

Essentially the answer is 'people can obey traffic signals'. So much for transparency and addressing people's concerns.

TTC: Scarborough Subway Extension (formerly LRT replacement) (City of Toronto, Design Phase)

That's the entire problem. This is a government created agency that's supposed to serve the public. That means making wise use of available funds and actually informing the public of what's going on. Instead it simply tries to justify doing whatever the government wants. It's even worse than...

Ontario Line (was Relief Line South, in Design)

This is exactly why Ford's bill to reduce community and owner rights was so damaging. Can anyone here say they'd be fine throwing away a lifetime's worth of investment for $1 in the interest of transit expansion?
