    UT Forum New Design?

Am I the only one who is having trouble adjusting to this? The old design was easy on the eyes and easy to get into. This one the width of the posts is too wide, and I just don't feel the same connection to the posters as I did before. Am I the only one who thinks this?

    Liberty Village Crowd-funded bus?

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/crowd-funded-bus-takes-a-run-at-transit-starved-liberty-village-1.2771419 These people really don't realize there is a GO train station a 5 minute walk away, do they?

    Google Maps: Toronto in 3D!

Currently only Cornell and eastern Scarborough have been rendered, but it is safe to assume that the rest of the city should get the same treatment. Here is a shot of Malvern Town Centre: https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.7927833,-79.2204299,1752a,20y,41.25t/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en

The Hard Truths About Public Transit

Considering the guy who wrote this works for Ryerson, I'm surprised they didn't get someone from their urban planning department to write this: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/murtaza-haider/public-transit-canada-_b_5542513.html My comment Since replies were limited to 250 words, I did...

Abundant Access: Jarrett Walker & Jennifer Keesmaat Talk Transit (this Thursday)

http://stevemunro.ca/?p=9097&cpage=1#comment-63819 Surprisingly nothing on feelingcongested.ca or humantransit.org about this. It's at 7PM at St. Paul's Church (Bloor and Church). Anyone going?

    TTC fare increase

http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2013/11/20/fare_hike_ttc_considers_boosting_token_cost_by_5_cents.html Very disappointed with them raising token and Metropass fares over the cash fare. Please feel free to correct me, but hasn't the cash fare been frozen at $3 for the last few years/fare hikes...

Do we care too much about public transit's revenue?

I was reading a book called Toronto Sprawls, which details the history of the city's growth through the 20th century. Side note, despite the author being pro-oil and even being a climate change denier, even he is against urban sprawl as it is unsustainable economically and environmentally...

LRT Speed versus Accessibility: Identifying the Ideal Goals of Toronto’s LRT plans

For my 3rd year of Urban Studies, I was required to do a research project based on a question I had about the city and its citizens. One thing which I always did wonder about was how far people were people willing to walk to transit, especially in regards to Toronto's proposed light rail lines...

Bayview and Sheppard: Toronto's most congested intersections

http://www.thestar.com/news/article/1211295--toronto-s-10-worst-streets-for-traffic-gridlock (includes map and listing of the worst intersections and roads) I think the problem is that there is too much traffic being infused into these areas because of the increase of density along with the...

    Yonge and Bay one way?

http://www.torontosun.com/2012/05/08/yonge-bay-to-go-one-way I have to disagree with Vaughan's assertion that one way streets kill businesses and pedestrian street activity. When I was in Montreal last summer, I stayed only a few blocks away from Rue Saint-Catherine and Boulevard de...

Transit City surface stop spacing poll

This is not about whether it is above or underground, technology, etc. This is to see what kind of stop spacing you would like to see. The options are based off of the two strategies discussed for Eglinton: Option A: 800m - Laid, Leslie, Don Mills, Wynford, Bermondsey, Victoria Park, Warden...

When is a service cut not a service cut? When YRT says it isn't

http://www.yorkregion.com/news/article/1278873--yrt-readies-for-next-generation Shame too, since my local bus (86 Weldrick-Newkirk) is having its route streamlined to make it far more usable rather than twisting through as many cul-du-sacs as possible. Of course, reducing the already pitiful...

    GO Transit in Cities XL???

I got this game for Christmas, and I must say it is absolutely fantastic. While some critics have said it to be not as good as Sim City, I beg to differ and does a number of things better - not to mention being in full 3D. Anyways, I noticed something kind of interesting with one of the office...

Is gentrification really a good thing?

After years of posting on urban forums and blogs, I always got the image that gentrification was a good thing. It brought new life into a struggling and depressed neighbourhood, making it safer and more livable. However, at university we have been focusing more on the negative aspects of...

    YRT 2011-2012 strike

YRT strike Oct 24, GO strike averted Surprised no one has started a thread about this, or even updated the current GO and YRT threads from what I can tell. Figured this would be a great place to post updates and discuss how it may affect you. For me getting to York, it is still possible...

    Christie Expressway vs Spadina Expressway?

This thread isn't about which one would be better per-se, but rather why did the city puts all its eggs in the Spadina basket rather than the Christie (400 south extension) one? Surely building a highway through one of the wealthiest and most well connected neighbourhoods in the city was not...

Cities get creative with solutions for traffic congestion woes

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/time-to-lead/cities-get-creative-with-solutions-for-traffic-congestion-woes/article2136868/singlepage/#articlecontent Some of these ideas are good, but I can't endorse all of them. Mobility is an important part of our economy and modern society in...

    Slower subway service?

I'll admit I don't take the subway too often, and maybe I just never noticed this before, but the last few times I've been on the subway I haven't been too impressed with the performance of the trains. It is one thing for this to happen during rush hour with trains operating at maximum...

    Toronto/Montreal comparisons (ain't pretty...)

Last week I took a holiday in Montreal. I had never been to the city, but always wanted to go. From an urban planning standpoint, I also wanted to see how it compared to Toronto, and what it did differently. During my trip I blogged about my experiences and observations on my Facebook. I...
