I wonder if this site will ever be redeveloped into a tower.

I don't know if there's shadowing or stepback rules or anything that would limit it but I'd be all for it. The current building is a hostile mess, so it would be no loss, and if Y&D Square is going to be this intense urban space that yells at you from all directions it might as well have a giant tower looming over it. Would be pretty cool IMO.

This area has long been full of neon lights and loud gaudy commercialism. I have zero issue with the in your face commercialism. They just forgot to design a decent building behind all those screens and billboards. The 1 curved screen is an improvement over the 3 smaller screens but eventually the lemon it's attached to needs to be completely re-done.

Give it another 10-15 years max and we'll see a proposal for a 70-80 storey tower on this site.

They also forgot to future-proof a design for a future northern entrance to Dundas Station. That is the biggest loss about this site.

The biggest problem with this building apart from the truly horrendous interior layout was the fact they didn't go far enough with the sensory overload extraness (i.e. cutting out the multicolored Mcdonalds pole & oversized Panasonic signs) and we ended up with a lot of dead grey space.

Hopefully this sign will do its part as a first step to fixing this, and maybe in the next decade, they can just cover the rest of the building in giant screens.

Here it comes:

They haven't started building anything yet. They're still dismantlement the old media signs.
Oh, my bad

I thought the sign at the top was a new install.

But the sign variance posted shows and describes exactly what Kotsy thought was going up - so he’s not wrong. Doesn’t look like we are getting what was shown in that other rendering.
