The Dance Cave on Bloor plays rockin' tunes. I haven't been but I think they have nights that would be up your alley. It's either in or next to Lee's Palace.

Dance Cave was the first place that popped into my mind too.
They are located on top of Lee's Palace.
Therion is right that they change genres on different nights.

It's upstairs at Lee's Palace and it's pretty fun, in spite of the preponderance of young university kids (who, though I kind of am one, I find mostly irritating).

Dance Cave was my first bet too. Although, you can find that music playing at variety of bars/lounges in Kensington, West Queen West-Parkdale, etc. Toronto doesn't really have one great "indie night" right now (that I know of at least), but it seems to be well-represented at various parties and different bars/lounges if you are there on the right night.

Swetty Betty's juke box is pretty rockin' too!

The Phoenix on Fridays...
Horseshoe Tavern most nights...
Velvet Underground any night...

Even Circa...I saw Cut Copy there last year and I remember them having a lot of different rooms, some with really great jungle beats and such...
