Hmmm… that gave me a maybe not so great idea, but an idea nonetheless.
For a name “Scotiabank Chinook Arch” or “Telus Arch” or given the display screen showing the northern lights “Scotiabank Aurora” or something unique.

It'll probably be called [sponsor name here] Centre. So I think we should come up with a nickname for the arena like "The Box" or something.

I would be comfortable calling it the D-BOX (as in the Cineplex D-BOX seats), as I can't tell if it is a movie theatre or not.

Forbes recently came out with their estimates of NHL team values. The Flames are #18 at $680 million; the Oilers are #7 at $1,100 million. The article says that the new arena is a big reason for the Oilers to be so highly valued; I suspect without the new arena they'd be pretty similar to Calgary -- similar sized markets, similar quality of team. So that's around a $420 million US ($530M CDN) increase in value. The Islanders started this season in a new arena, and their value went up $430 million from the previous year. Good thing we're giving the CSEC $300 million, so they can get $500M in value back.

I'm fairly close to the TV deal negotiations for the Oilers/Flames, and I hate to say it, but the Oilers fanbase is substantially bigger than that of the Flames

The Oil have had a ton of generational talents in the NHL and won 5 cups so it's no surprise that the Flames have the smaller fan base.

It isn’t like the owners can cash in that value. Maybe Forbes think a new arena will generate an extra $30million in free cash flow a year for the Oilers - $45 extra a ticket or so.
Also have to discount Calgarys potential ‘bump’ for the contribution from the club which doesn’t exist in Edmonton’s case.

I always tell people the Oilers are like 95% of the civic identity of Edmonton, the Flames are maybe 10% of Calgary lol.
