So on Monday I posted in the General Construction Thread about the consolidation and rezoning application submitted for 17th Ave and 5A Street SW:
https://developmentmap.calgary.ca/#property/LOC2018-0250

It definitely is an Arlington Street Investments project, they had a public open house that day as well. Here is a link to the engagement materials:

Conceptual renderings from the Open House boards (still no DP, so not sure to look like this):

It looks a bit glass-boxy, but IMO given the right materials this could be good - I like the stepped back feel as it rises (less imposing on 17th), far better street level interaction than the current parking lot and additional density.

Damn thats sexy IMO! Anything pure white or black and Im always sold. I too like how it steps away so its not going to be daunting for pedestrians on the street level. The fact this and the Fifth look completely different from one another gives me a lot more confidence in Arlington. I was afraid of a monotone 17th ave dominated by a single taste of style by Arlington but this makes me excited for more of their stuff.

Looks great, love the set back design to act as a bit of a noise buffer given this fronts along 17th ave. Frank (Arlington) looks to be single handedly revitalizing this area of 17th between this, The Fifth and National Block. We could use a lot more. Still a lot of underutilized sites primed for redevelopment along 17th ave. Hope we see the ugly strip mall to the east redeveloped too in the near future!

At the top of my wish list for 17th is the KFC lot, the PBA lot at 1st and the empty lot at 12th st. ......and pretty much everything east of 2nd street E.

Came across this while growing through the map, not sure if I've ever seen it before and it looks like tis been a long while since the thread saw any news. So speaking on that topic has there been any news lately surrounding this development?

I doubt it. Arlington Street are struggling to get the 5 St. and 17 Ave project going. They have not demonstrated they can manage more than one project at a time, and even that can be too much for them (i.e The Windsor)
