Seems like a cost cutting step too. Considering the renders looked much more similar to the Legion building next door, which is also built by Truman.

From afar, the spandrel doesn’t stand out quite as much.
 
I’m sure the quality is good, but this building looks fugly. I’ll still take it over cornerstone or some of the other shit being built, but it’s not Truman’s best work.
 
I know I'm in the minority here but I kinda like it. I will take spandrel over hardy board or stucco any day of the week, and the brown balconies are working for me.

On the other hand, some of those pictures really show what a huge building it is. It looks almost jarringly out of scale with the surrounding buildings, although hopefully that will be less pronounced as more intensification happens in the area.

It definitely sets a new precedent.

I think properties on the southside of Kennington Road are probably the next domino to fall, in terms of apartment/condo development. There's also the large former CBC lot that could support something of this scale?
