This is a good template for how low rise buildings should be. Nothing too fancy or over the top, but nothing too mundane, and combined with good solid materials that age well.

Those SW corner alley facing surface parking stalls should be removed, either the building should be extended to the alley or (much easier) a patio should be located there. With the surface parking the alley is effectively twice as wide.
It's the best sun and leaves a generous pedestrian right-of-way on Edmonton Trail, plus your patio patrons will be sitting further back from a loud and ugly road.

Or at least have built space above the parking spots. Not sure why they would leave that open above.
