I think I've got it now:

JH = Junction House and RC = Reunion Crossing

Bravo!!! Based on the crane's positions, I'm sure you're right that all 3 belong to 293 Kingsway. I still can't get over the fact that the right-most crane (the one pointing upwards) and 299 Campbell appear next to each other, although in fact they're at least 5 km apart as the crow flies. And the 3 cranes from the same project appear to stretch over such a huge distance. Never trust shots taken with telephoto lenses!

I was wondering what would count as a crane on this list and what would not. I understand that mobile cranes and overhead cranes do not count - but what about this one?

This is located at 93 Passmore Ave in Scarborough. As you can see, this place specializes in steel and rebar, and I would assume the crane is to lift heavy steel and other materials around the site. But would this count? For one, it is a permanent crane, and it is not to construct a building. But it is a tower crane (Correct me if I am wrong) and every other crane on this is one as well.

No, not counting cranes that aren't on construction sites.

What are the outer limits that you're considering for cranes on this list?

Edit: geographically speaking

If you look back on page 1, you'll see each of the municipalities we're following so far, but if you have a reasonable list for one further out, eg. Milton beyond Mississauga and Oakville, I'd be interested in adding it. Not sure that K-W Cambridge or Guelph would be worthwhile at this point, not until we have more threads for those places.

Passed by on the 427 today. 2 cranes at Woodbine.
Thanks! Down from 5? Are 3 of the buildings now done? I wish we had up-to-date photography of the site! (@slickpete83: around there with a camera at all? others?)

Back in K-W and bored for Victoria day, so went out and biked around the universities area and all the way down King until the density stops past Downtown Kitchener, and can count 21 cranes. I doubt I'm missing any more within half a kilometer of King St., but there may be more cranes out in the suburbs or towards Cambridge. Probably a few more scattered around the region in suburban projects, so @Pinski 's number of 27 seems pretty correct.

Student/universities area
250 Phillip St. (Elora House I believe) - 1
145 Columbia St. W (ICON145, towers C and D) - 2
199-205 Albert St. - 1
155 King St. N - 1
128 King St. N (One28) - 1

Rest of Waterloo
Barrel Yards V (road not built yet, tower name Royal Oak?) - 1

DTK
749 King St. W (The Bright) - 1
607 King St. W (Station Park) - 2
20 Breithaupt St. - 1
114/120 Victoria St. S - 2
55 Duke St. W (Young Condos) - 1
78 Frederick St. (Duke Tower Kitchener) - 1
51-53 David St. (Otis in the Park) - 1
120 Benton St. (Arrow Lofts II) - 1
242 Queen St. S (Ophelia) - 1
475 King St. E - 2
66 Weber St. E (Civic66) - 1

The problem with a comprehensive crane count of KW is that most building discussion happens over at WRConnected, so I doubt there will ever be thorough coverage of KW projects on this forum. Though we should have at least the major projects.

EDIT: (I can count at least three more in the region from the top floor of my building, one in the southwest of Waterloo or maybe in Kitchener, and two more in the west, so that makes 24)

Thanks for that! Impressive amount of activity there. I won't add these to the GTA list yet, will see if the K-W-Cambridge threads continue to pick up here. Amazing start though!

There is also the 64 Grand Avenue South in the Gaslight District of Cambridge that has a crane up found via Google Maps. But I agree, there's very minimal coverage in K-W-Cambridge. There is even low coverage for some parts of the GTA. It would be cool if one day coverage can reach Ottawa and the rest of Ontario, but one can only hope ;). Maybe the site can be renamed UrbanOntario one day?! ;)

See http://www.skyrisecities.com, our sister site for areas beyond the Golden Horseshoe!

Personally I feel like covering places like ottawa wouldnt make a whole lot of sense. There are areas around Toronto that do have poor coverage still, but many of those areas make sense to eventually grow to this forum. The golden horseshoe is increasingly becoming one large integrated metropolitan area. It would make sense for all the cities that make up this region to be featured on UT because Toronto is central to the metropolis and its growth.

Places like ottawa and kingston and london and so on are very clearly outside this area, even if they are still large growing Ontario cities.

Places like Niagara and barrie are directly apart of this growing metro, hence why they are beginning to be covered on the forum.

More mysterious cranes: these ones are perched on towers that are well under construction. As seen from Humber Bay. I can't think of any tall twin towers under construction in that part of town. Anyone?
