I feel the just need to paint the supports black and it would be notably better
Maybe that is the real issue for some people here, but that ship already sailed a while ago. Lets just try to make the best of the new situation.Would be nicer if the sign stayed as CWB/Canadian Western Bank![]()
It's shoddy work all around. If the building structure required this kind of frame to hold up the sign, it should have been designed to conceal or incorporate the frame into the overall design, not look like shit that was meant to be behind a wall.I feel the just need to paint the supports black and it would be notably better
I'm not sure that it's shoddy work per se. It is, however, absolutely sh!tty design all around. It's shoddy work all around. Guess I shouldn't hate on National Bank too much, they donated $330K to the Core Patrol program.Maybe that is the real issue for some people here, but that ship already sailed a while ago. Lets just try to make the best of the new situation.
Good add. I meant shoddy on the part of the consultants or designers. Whoever fabricated it just made what was ordered.I'm not sure that it's shoddy work per se. It is, however, absolutely sh!tty design all around.
What they've done is compromise a quarter billion dollar or so building undergoing a $45 million dollar plus renovation by being too cheap to do the signage right.
There was/is no real need to "hang it over the parapet" just to avoid removing and reinstalling some spandrel panels in order to do it right.
There was also no need to use this particular spacing (or language for that matter) between the logo and the text. There are examples within their standard branding that demonstrate the flexibility to allow for better than this.
QC uber AB. Quelle surprise.Screw National Bank. They fired a lot of CWB employees, taking away a lot of jobs from Edmonton.
49 Yelp reviews between 1-5 for National Bank. 2 fives, 1 two, 46 ones. Can't say one way or another if that's representative of all the banks but as far as building renovations go, the TD renovation isn't anything to write home about. Back in the day, bank buildings looked like something. These days their monopolies earn them billions every quarter and their building are average to below average to well below average. The blame if any, should go to the company that put themselves up for sale, which was their choice. I suppose some don't want to speak ill of the departed and they have become almost saint like.
In any such deal, the acquirer of course generally eliminates duplication and realizes efficiencies to help pay for the acquisition.
Also them being from an eastern province that there seems to be latent hostility to here seems to make it easier in some peoples minds to turn them into the bad guys.
In Edmonton in particular, the bar now is very low now. The large banks generally seem to see us an an outpost to put as little effort into as possible.49 Yelp reviews between 1-5 for National Bank. 2 fives, 1 two, 46 ones. If I remember correctly, Royal bank has a sign up on the old HSBC building. In Edmonton in particular, the bar now is very low now. The large banks generally seem to see us an an outpost to put as little effort into as possible.
TD's renovation was quite the gong show, but I thought it was a bit of an improvement. However, rather than hating National Bank for putting up a sign that does not measure up to some standards, shouldn't we focus on the big banks that can't even seem to be bothered to have a tower with a sign on them here? Again, that would include Royal Bank, BMO and Scotia.
