In light of recent trade issues we've had threads and subthreads about buying Canadian.

This is not that, per se.

Nothing to do with trade, and only tangentially w/any sense of national pride.

Rather, this is a thread to introduce your fellow UT'ers to Canadian products you think are best-in-class or right up there, an outstanding value.

Any category of goods from food to clothing to auto parts if your so inclined.

Many here will know my passion for great food, so I'll start it there.

Belly Ice Cream
What: Really great ice creams, with some very original flavours as well.

Signature: Scotch Whiskey w/smoked almonds and salted caramel ice cream.

Where: Whole Foods, Pusateris, Rowe Farms, McEwan, and Sobeys 'urban fresh' stores. etc.

Also available scooped at Brett's at Kingston/Queen in the Beach area.

Next I'll nominate 'Crispens'

They're a sort of flat bread, but so light and airy and crispy, there a great 'chip' substitute (healthier too)

Made by these folks: https://www.facebook.com/Lawash-Bakery-335855549845002/

Available at Bloor Street Market and many Metro locations, as well as McEwan.

Next, Kozlik's Mustard.

Reviewed as 'best mustard' by Saveur and one of the best by the NYT.

Frankly they just make a great product (err, lots them 36 varieties)

The full selection can be found at their St. Lawrence Market outpost.

But a few flavours are in Longos, Sobeys (some locations) and a bunch of other spots.

Mad Mexican Salsas and Guacs

Simply a superior product to the junk at most stores.

If you can't be bothered making it, this is what you buy.

Very good pico de gaillo and salsa verde among others.

At Whole Foods, Big Carrot, Kitchen Table, Bloor St. Market, Pusateris, McEwan and a bunch more.

From Cookstown Greens: Smoked Tomatoes.........

SMOKED TOMATOES
Organic dried Juliette tomatoes are rehydrated and smoked with
Applewood. No salt or oil has been added/

That I know of, currently available at farmer's markets where Cookstown sells, including Evergreen.

Product is seasonal.

And wonderful......its a form of candy in its own right, but I love in a salad dressing, rehydrate in olive oil over night, add a dash of acid of your choice, (I like cider vinegar for this) and puree w/a hand blender.....w/some garlic and oregano. Exquisite on regular salad, pasta salad or potato salad. Consider some of the Kozlik's mustard mentioned above for just a tad of added piquancy.

I don't think Kawartha Ice Cream can stand up to competition.

As for something non-food, I think the viral cosmetics company Deciem is Canadian.

"Quotidien Dijon"? I always have doubts about the quality of the product when the manufacturer couldn't be bothered to hire a professional translator for their labels.

Cave Spring Winery.

Pretty cheap for pretty decent Ontario wine.

I used to gift people random bottles of fairly expensive wine from all sorts of places, but a couple of years ago just started handing everyone a bottle from my fav winery.

Good. More Kozlik's for me then.
