I am wondering how Milton is supposed to hit the 40% intensification target plus 200 persons/jobs hectare in its downtown. They were at 35 PJ/HA in 2001. IIRC the 40% target applies to the Upper Tier/Single tier governments though, so they can just use Burlington and Oakville intensification developments to balance it out.

hmmm... seems like Halton is looking to potentially expand its urban boundary by 3010 ha

A university campus by the GO station = reverse commuters to take advantage of 2-way Milton service
A Mattamy development by the GO station = more 1-way traffic to 1 Front St.

FAIL.

Didn't know this plan was going for for so long until the point provincial funding was cancelled. An update- looks like the university will now utilize existing infrastructure first before building a new campus- not a bad idea.

It came as a shock to many when the Ford government announced back in October of 2018 that the funding for major university expansions in Halton, Peel, and Markham had been cancelled.

This cancellation impacted the Wilfrid Laurier University campus expansion, in partnership with Conestoga College, in Milton.

However, in a recent press release from the Town of Milton, it was made clear that Laurier plans to move forward with their intent to build a campus in the Milton Education Village (MEV).
Along with preparing a business case for the province, Laurier has developed a two-phased approach to bring its Milton campus to life.

Phase one is already underway, and consists of Laurier preparing to bring a mix of degree and non-degree programming to the Milton community in the winter of 2020 with classes located at the MEV Innovation Centre.

Phase two, according to the press release, will consist of the development of the MEV lands, as well as a full campus master plan and architectural design developed by Diamond Schmitt Architects.

Back from the dead:

- New Laurier Campus, combined with new Congestoga Campus.

- A long term care home will also be built on site.

Key points from the News Release:

-The new Milton campus is expected to accommodate 6,700 students and will focus on university and college academic programs in high-demand fields such as science, health care, engineering, technology, and business.
-This includes approximately 3,750 students for Conestoga College and approximately 2,940 students for Wilfrid Laurier University.
-Campus opens 2024 (presumably September)
-Campus will be 275,000ft2
-The Schlegel Villages long-term care home is expected to open in late 2023 and will provide 192 new, modern, safe and comfortable long-term care spaces in Milton.
-Much back-patting as this will be expedited by MZO.
