The 28th annual Edmonton Marathon Family Festival Weekend (August 17-18, 2019).
With over 4,500 participants over the race weekend, the energy of a downtown Start/Finish line has generated a lot of excitement with more spectators, an increase in volunteer involvement and a better experience for runners.

"Join us at the world class Edmonton Convention Centre downtown and get ready to take in the City and River Valley views, runs through beautiful established neighborhoods, and enjoy the thrill of running down Jasper Avenue as the crowds cheer you on!"
"This Event draws national attention as it is a certified Boston Marathon Qualifier for 2020."

A few shots with skyrise views in mind, of course !

Edmonton has been announced as the first host site this year for a newer world triathlon event on July 23-24 featuring $1 million in prize money.

Along with more money, more of the city will be showcased on this broadcast event as the race is double the distance of previous triathlons and will feature more closed roads as the 100km race weaves through the city - a 2km swim, 80km bike and 18km run.

After switching from sprint triathlons to these longer distances, Paula Findlay has found success again with several wins last year - she will be here for this race.

L'Etape by Tour de France is coming to Edmonton on August 14th and we're the only Canadian city participating!

Anyone down in Old Strathcona tonight, the Canadian Criterium. about 80-100 riders on a short closed course in the white ave area. Should be a wild exciting time. lots of high speed action and crashes.

Waterdale Bridge queen E park will be lively this weekend with the return of the Baby Watercross races Saturday and Sunday. And this year there will be a night race , the zombie cross. Looks like great weather.

Be aware that Canadian Cycling Champs are this week. Starts tomorrow. Time trial , then move to the city streets for Sat Sun and Mon. Groat road, River Rd 100ave, Victoria Park hill and around the Leg are all closed this weekend. The old Strathcona on Monday for the Crit.

Some big time riders again this year. Paula Findely is back to defend her Time trial championship. and Derek Gee on the Mens side.( Derek just race the Giro ditalia a few weeks ago and finished in the top 20. with a few podium finishes.) There are a number of women pros as well.

Roads are all open again, Some pretty good racing all weekend, the capper was the Elite Crit last night on White Ave. Speed up to 65kph on the roads. Some pretty big names from the international tour teams as well.
the 20 bike crash on the opening lap of the Elite men's race on Groat rd was spectacular.
There were rumours floating of creating a national Crit series and White Ave would be a great location for a Saturday night race.
