november is generally a shitty month, doubly so when it comes to photography. the sun setting at 4:15 in the afternoon is bad enough, but november is also gloomy, wet and people retreat indoors as the days become chilly and dark.

so with that cheery introduction, enjoy!

Re: MONTREAL in NOVEMBER :: snow, rain, sun, leaves :: 89 ph

Once again, thanks for a great set of pictures. I am always struck by how well the old and the new coexist in Montreal.
Looking forward to some more of these good street scenes!

Re: MONTREAL in NOVEMBER :: snow, rain, sun, leaves :: 89 ph

Another great tour... thanks!

Re: MONTREAL in NOVEMBER :: snow, rain, sun, leaves :: 89 ph

Great tour.

Is there a provincial by-election for Outremont? I'm surprised to see no Liberal signs, but for the PQ, ADQ and others.

Re: MONTREAL in NOVEMBER :: snow, rain, sun, leaves :: 89 ph

yep, there's a by-election on right now. it overlaps with the federal election and started the day after a municipal election campaign. talk about overload.

the liberals have the second-biggest signs (those raya mileva signs are enormous, a fact that has not been lost on passers-by... i've seen some "this signs are ****ing HUGE!" graffiti) and they were the first to mount them. but since they've been up longer than some of the other signs, they've had more time to fall down or by destroyed by the elements.

also, the PQ and UFP headquarters are on park avenue, where all of those poster photos were taken, but the liberals' is somewhere else.

Re: MONTREAL in NOVEMBER :: snow, rain, sun, leaves :: 89 ph

Picture eleven: I had a girlfriend who lived in that building when I went to school in Montreal. I wonder where she is now?

Darling Brothers Foundry: A good friend of mine toiled there. I could never believe that people could work in a place so damn hot.

Thanks for the images. Brings back alot of memories.

Re: MONTREAL in NOVEMBER :: snow, rain, sun, leaves :: 89 ph

thanks. and, uh, you're welcome.

the darling foundry is now a stunning gallery/exhibition space. i was there to see an exhibit on richard greaves, an "anarchitect" who builds stuff like this:

audio taken inside one of his houses (creaking wood, groans from the wind, dripping water, that sort of thing) was piped into the gallery space. it was perfectly spooky, especially on a grey day.

Re: MONTREAL in NOVEMBER :: snow, rain, sun, leaves :: 89 ph

chris, where is this and what is this building, the history behind it?

DSCF0449.JPG

it looks like the underside of an elevated expressway.

Re: MONTREAL in NOVEMBER :: snow, rain, sun, leaves :: 89 ph

it's the interior of the darling foundry, the building i just described above:

Re: MONTREAL in NOVEMBER :: snow, rain, sun, leaves :: 89 ph

i thought it was the description for the wooden structure.

Isn't that the place from 'Just For Laughs:Gags'?

Re: MONTREAL in NOVEMBER :: snow, rain, sun, leaves :: 89 ph

i wouldn't be surprised. just for laughs gags is filmed at various locations around town.

I too recognize it. I'm 90% sure it's the convenience store they often use.

Re: MONTREAL in NOVEMBER :: snow, rain, sun, leaves :: 89 ph

Wow that made my day! I used to live around the corner...wellington...from the darling foundry. i was there the day it opened as a gallery/event space. When i have enough for an outremont brownstone you know where i'm moving.

Re: MONTREAL in NOVEMBER :: snow, rain, sun, leaves :: 89 ph

Right now I'm staying in a place on Parc, just north of Mont-Royal Ave. I stepped off the 80 bus to find a poster with that shitbag Jean LaPierre in my face. Tabernac!

Many of the UFP signs are still up around here.
