I took these pics during a two hours walk tuesday morning under an unpredictable sky.

I went from Le Quartier des spectacles to Chinatown and then the western part of Old Montreal, Le Quartier international and Paper hill.

Very nice photos of a handsome city that both cares about its public realm and knows how to design, build and maintain it. A particularly good contrast with the photos posted in the Shabby Toronto thread.

Cue the posts about falling chunks of concrete on Montreal expressways. But don't mention the Gardiner...

I don't know, it doesn't look very 'urban' to me. I mean, where are all the hydro poles and overhanging wires?

There are parts of Montreal that are just as shabby as anything in Toronto.

Toronto's public realm is like the curate's egg - parts of it are excellent!

These are some pretty beautiful buildings in one of my favourite cities. I was just wondering something, is there any particular plan for the design of the buildings and their placement in the Quartier des Spectacles?

Also, Old Montreal and Old Port is undeniably the most beautiful part of the city, and such a popular district, I've noticed a range of styles that don't seem like the typical, historical French. Are most of them actually from when the British took over the city?
