what lens are you using on the D40x.... the AFS 18-55?
some are with the 18-55 kit lens but I also bought the 70-300 with VBR, which is my favorite outside, most are taken with that.
hey, you do seem to have a good natural talent for composition! Lots of nice street shots! I think the one of the guy on his cell phone with the streetcar blurred in the backgoeund is my fave. Night shots do take a lot more planning and effort. You will likely need to learn how to do manual settings for ISO, shutter speed, aperature and you might want to invest in some sort of tripod if you dont already have one. Blurring is always a danger when doing low light shots. My only other tip is take lots of shots... I seem to get about 5 - 10% good usable shots myself....
That shot is one of my favorites as is the under the bridge, with the guy running towards me shot. I was playing around with some different settings, mostly aperature settings that night. I just got a tripod for xmas so I'm itching to get out with it to try it out, should be able to do some pretty cool stuff with it.
do yourself a favour and pick up the Nikon 18-200 VR
thats the lens I wanted to pick up but couldn't find it anywhere, so for now I'm constantly changing lenses. it sucks but oh well what can you do. My father has a bunch of lenses from his old nikon slr so I'm going to raid his stock this afternoon, I doubt I'll find onewith that range but he has quite the collection.
Para: Good start with a new camera-in the personal as well as city pics. With a good eye the rest comes naturally.

Thanks he's so much fun and he loves the camera, thanks god for those protection filters you can attach or I'd have a lot of little finger prints all over each shot!
