I'll try to keep this to all the relatively new buildings I saw in NYC.

This one stood out. In terms of sizing, this is about what I expect Theatre Park will look or feel like (located near the Flatiron):

A new townhouse among giants (in Chelsea/Gramercy area):

This looked like a taller and much better version of the Glasshouse:

Staying on the theme, here are two more concrete and glass buildings (on 1st ave, north of Stuyvesant Town):

One Jackson Square, a real looker in person too:

I encountered two really odd recladdings. These are old brick buildings in the style New York is known for, but they've been covered in glass! Perhaps I should add these to the City Hall re-clad thread:

Along Columbus Circle:

and near Union Square:

We can kind of see what One Bloor would look like if it weren't clad in glass:

We complain about the dull colours of Toronto buildings, but we're not the only ones with this issue. That yellow there adds a bit of spice. In the end, I think our CBD is much more distinct and interesting than this one:

The 1st Avenue buildings are the only ones that don't make me feel actually sick.

And that "bit of yellow" is easily the worst building south of Canal, which given the historic horror show lurking in that district, is surely saying something.

Ladies Mile's anti-American histrionics notwithstanding, NYC's latest crop of architecture is a mixed bag. The Union Square midrise project is quite a little gem, but that stripped down ziggurat form that is reminiscent of Glasshouse is basically just some structure that pays homage to light and shadow ordinances. It is like those stacked boxes that architects render background buildings as.

There's been some good recent architecture in New York, but the above are not examples. And the Union Square building is a nightmare.

My god why would they re-clad that beautiful building on Columbus Circle with glass???? Stuff just doesn't make sense anymore.
