Weekend getaways are always fun, and I had the desire to explore. Too bad I arrived in New Delhi during the monsoon season though. It rained and rained and rained, although it was still worth it to see this place. In fact, it was far more green and tranquil than my other Indian adventure in Mumbai.

India Gate is supposedly in the heart of the city, but buildings were hardly visible in the vicinity. New Delhi is certainly very green.

Humayun's Tomb is set in yet another vast scene of greenery. It was a pleasant and comfortable stroll outdoors. If only it wasn't pouring.

The Taj Mahal was a hectic day trip. Luckily the sun came out and the photos turned out somewhat decent. Although the ride out was long and painful as the road was busy with overloaded trucks, animals, and the like, I'd still recommend the trip, but on the train instead.

This better be worth it ...

Yes it was ...

It didn't seem that big compared to the photos in books, but nevertheless the white marble was stunning.

What a fun weekend getaway to New Delhi! Now, I need to go back during dry season.

More to come soon.

Nice pictures.

When we visited the Taj Mahal, we slept in Agra the night before in order to beat the daytripping tour buses and trains from Delhi. It was very empty and serene in the morning.

Although the Taj Mahal charges steep admission for foreigners, it's well worth a visit.

Nearby, the Red Fort also deserves an hour or two of your time. Once past the hawkers at the entrance, it's actually quite serene inside.

The fort consists of buildings with many styles and colours. This one comes with a nice garden.

Wow seems like you had a swell time back in india. Its always one of the things i wanted to do but like everything , i keep on procasinating. I have travelled to India but as a business traveler. Hoping to go there next time as a tourist. Any tips you can share...?

You can see a fine example of Indian architecture right here in GTA. Please go to BAPS Mandir(temple) on 61 Clairville Drive at 427 & Finch West. Visit to the temple is free, except entrance to Museum of Indian History. You may wish to enquire as to if is ok to take pictures.

Join a local tour from Delhi. It's a painful ride down to Agra on a slow road with lots of overloaded trucks. But it's worth it in the end!

Just take the train or fly. I took a "first class" train from Delhi to Agra for pennies and it was an incredibly nice ride - the train was remarkably clean. Then when in Agra I booked a flight back to Delhi for about $40 (could have taken the train back, but since it was so cheap I just took the flight). Totally worth it.

You must hate lines if you were that close and you did not get in. Got in myself and I wont lie it made the whole trip worth while.

I saw the Taj - I didn't make it inside the masloeum.

The line to get inside the building was horrendous and I prefer to photograph the outside rather than stand in a line for 2 hours.
