Thanks for the update. the rowing club has a travel pattern protocol which could be updated for the travel times. I always thought we should have a water taxi but proposing a year round one would be better.

Low light situations, the rowers are all lit up so it shouldn't be hard to update the identifiers.
 
Although I like the idea of a water taxi, I do find the landing stations to be overkill. Have you considered mixed-use docks as an alternative option?
With the understanding that the dock must be highly adjustable and strong. this year was an off year but the river levels change a lot and the current can be damaging when it rises above 6meter in height.
 
To be clear, the landing stations would be suspended by an overhead bridge/structural frame and would never touch the water no matter the actual level of the river. The overhead bridge/structural frame would contain a pedestrian path and a "horizontalator" enclosed cab (actually a series of them) for linear connection to access stations on land well back from the river's edge. A controllable ramp (think draw-bridge like structure) would connect the water surface to a station portal and would "pull" the river vehicle up the ramp vis-a-vis LSM motors embedded in the ramp's structural make-up. As per the @Gronk! comment, it would be possible to have floating docks for all manner of craft types attached to the landing stations, thereby making the river accessible to all-comers.
The bridge and the landing structure in each instance could be architecturally significant and intensely different one from the other along the river. I am working on a virtual mechanical rendering prototype to share soon -- so that the mental visualization will be easier to comprehend.
By suspending the landing station on a framework that can be adjusted vertically over a distance of several meters, we can always keep the station in close proximity to the river level without actually touching it. LSM-guided elevators within that framework can easily adjust to a change in run length.

This means that neither the rivercraft nor the landing stations would interfere with the river, with natural bank erosion/movement, nor with any river-dependent species. And, if we make the bridge structure vertical-planting-compliant we can essentially use native plantings as an architectural feature, blending into the on-shore character of the river valley.

I'm sorry, @archited, are you an architect or a designer of some sorts? I find it hard to always follow what you share. Can't tell if you're visionary or just dreaming in fantasy world. You mention a lot of projects and future work in edmonton, but im not sure exactly what you do sorry.

You know, before you sharpen your pencil to criticize anyone personally and directly you ought to make sure that your own abilities are A-level. What have you done that stands out? I've seen a lot of poorly aimed critique vis-a-vis Edmonton. Maybe you should learn how to dress yourself.

Sorry, I'm really not trying to criticize or be rude! Genuinely just trying to understand if you're sharing fun ideas as more a dreaming/fantasy type thing (which there is a place for and is fun), or if you're a serious architect who is actually building projects and working on things. Not trying to criticize or anything, it's just hard to understand the contexts of the posts sometime. Like is this thread purely fun/dreaming? Because the tone has a sense of "we are going to do this", but I'm not sure who "we" is and if any of this is real.

Sentences like this sound like more than just floating some ideas around for fun. But I don't understand this hovercraft thing and if it's real and I'm struggling to find any website stuff that would point me to what you're working on.

Again, no shade man. Really appreciate your contributions to the site! Just trying to have appropriate context for what's real life and what's fun ideation.

I have attached a current copy of my Architect license just so there is no "iffy" discussion in that regard. I am NCARB-certified meaning that I have reciprocity and the ability to practice anywhere in North America. As I mentioned previously I am the principal founder of two Groups -- RoadShowz, Inc. and StreetSeenz, Inc. -- that includes 20 founders in total including Douglas Cardinal, Architect and J. Murray McCombs, Architect and Planner. Our group also includes engineers, XR specialists, artists, writers, gamers, and new media specialists. Our first project as a group in Edmonton will be the tenancy build-out of the Pendennis Hotel and the Brighton Block with high-fashion retailers, two art galleries, two restaurants and a RoadShowz and StreetSeenz street presence with high-tech podules, life-size holograms, and XR components that are all related to the third incarnation of the production 'UNCEDED: voices of the land' after highly successful runs in Venice, Italy and at the Canadian History Museum in Ottawa.

Nice place you have in Oak View! Is there much risk of wildfires being in mountainous Southern California?
 
Who can say if there is no demand, the city is far larger now, the population far greater. having another way to access the city cultural and recreational location could be a welcome idea. I always though there was something like that missing. I've been to a few cities that have services like river taxis.

Three years back we had mountainside fires that surrounded us on all sides -- the "Thomas Fires". Fortunately they didn't descend into the valley and we didn't have to evacuate. Even if they had, however, both my wife and I are certified Master Gardeners and she is a Landscape Architect, so we have been careful not to create a domestic hazard. We are looking to move to a new place (still Oak View) that has a lot more land so we can put a mini-farm together; we are just waiting for the housing market to settle down so that we don't have to pay a premium. We are also looking to purchase a downtown condo in Edmonton.
