It has been a really long time since my last photo thread, and I apologize that I haven't done a big Toronto thread since July....ever since I got a new job, finding time to shoot has been nonexistent. However, I was able to squeeze out a quick trip to my nation's capital since the Ottawa crew on SSP was organizing a meet. I did come to Ottawa in 1999 to check out Carleton university, and I was really not impressed. But thanks to the amazing tour by Ken and Niwell (SSP forumers), my view of this city is completely different and I have fallen in love with it. While it may not have the grand in your face monuments like you see in Washington or huge public areas squares like in Mexico City...Ottawa does things in a very classy, conservative and elegant manner....the perfect city to represent Canada (with plenty of commie blocks to boot).

Best. Ottawa. Thread. Ever.

As always, great pics. Gee, my hometown looks great in the fall.

I agree.

Beautiful pics. You have a great eye..
Ottawa looks more dense than I remember.

Does anyone have a pic of the new tallest in Ottawa. It isn't downtown but I wonder what the skyline looks like with it.

I was quite pleasantly surprised by Ottawa on a (relatively) recent visit, having not been since childhood. The Market area is great, and the fact that it is literally in the shadow of the East Block is very cool.

I am also intererested in how, true to form, Ottawa seems to blend Ontario and Quebec aesthetics (and thus English and French) in terms of architecture, streetscaping, etc. A nice metaphor both for its geography and historical position as a unifying capital.

Jan Morris' essay on Ottawa from "O, Canada" is priceless, btw.
