About a month ago, simply Dan and myself did a 5-hour chartered PCC (President's Conference Committee) Streetcar ride all over Toronto.

The TTC still owns two PCC cars and they can be rented out for charters by different groups. Some local transit enthusiasts had organized this one and people from all over North America had come up for this charter...believe it or not!

Anyway, here a some of the pics that Dan and I took that afternoon...

Waiting to begin the charter. Parked on Victoria Street by Dundas Square.

The most westerly point of Toronto's street rail network -- Long Branch (on the Mississauga border).

Why don't all streetcar loops have signs like this?

Not as old, but still old, meets older.

And that's it folks!

Rumour has it that a rare Peter Witt charter will be happening on August 7th. Just ask around in transit circles for more info!

Enjoyed the pics! I had no idea you could charter those old streetcars.

Hmm... I already got the g/f, but maybe if I did something like that it would be too geeky for her and she'd dump me.

Old Streetcar ride... g/f... old streetcar ride... g/f....
Touch choice.

I say charter the streetcar for an hour or two, and end up somewhere romantic to finish your trip. If you and the g/f have a whole streetcar to yourselves (though this would be pricy to do on your own), and end up at a nice restaurant at the end of your trip, it would attract more attention than a limo, and be way cooler, at least IMO.

Just don't wear the standard TTC geek clothing, and pay some attention to your companion, and you'll get both.

I think a 2 or 3 hour UT streetcar charter would be an amazing idea, as long as there are enough people to commit to going and share the costs.

^ I was thinking the same thing. I would actually show for that one.

What's standard TTC geek clothing? Wonder if I'm in uniform unawares.

^ Hahaha. TTC Fleece Sweatpants. I haven't seen anyone wearing those yet. :rollin
