Port Lambton, Ontario

Port Lambton (pop. 1000) is located on the St. Clair River just outside Wallaceburg. It's known for its relaxed atmosphere, baseball and fun-filled summers swimming and boating in the river. The surrounding area is prime agricultural land, producing a wide variety of fruits and vegetables (be sure to check out the end of this thread for some interesting agricultural photos). Robert's Landing, Michigan is directly across the river. There used to be a ferry service to Michigan, but now you have to drive 10 minutes up the river to the Sombra/Marine City crossing.

This is home for me.

Great photos, flar. Judging by the number of private homes and businesses that sport the stars and stripes, it looks like there's a stronger connection to the US here than in other border towns. It also has a more American look to it than other Ontario towns, with all the white, wooden cladding instead of brick.

And, way to hide behind the flowers to take photo #50. That's some nice work, there! ;)

Haha, that was a drive-by shot

People in that area are heavily influenced by the US. Detroit media completely dominates. When I went to university, I often found myself not getting a lot of references to Canadian culture, especially television and music. The Lambton-Kent-Essex area has a whole different feel than other parts of Ontario.

Great pics! Thanks. It's also good reminder of the frequently forgotten fact that we grow a massive amount of food in southern Ontario.
