.. have they said why they are not making the middle lane reversible when lakeshore is restricted to 3 lanes over the don? Seems to be a much better solution seeing how traffic is already backing up with just the ramps removed.

Took this yesterday.
Today was supposed to be the latest last day for access to this bridge, after November 30 and December 6. We'll see.
Not sure if this rightly belongs in this thread or the lower don lands thread.

Detour not in effect and could be later this week or next weekend, if then. When it does, the screaming, bitching will start for the westbound drivers. It was madhouse going west using 3 lanes today.

Utility work in the eastbound lanes at the east end is finished and paving can take place as paving equipment on site.

Until the Don Roadway is close to eastbound turning, cannot remove the crosswalk and traffic light to allow smooth flow for eastbound traffic.

I thought this was to happen last year

Upcoming Work

Lane diversions on Lake Shore Boulevard East between Cherry Street and Carlaw Avenue: February 28-December 2024

Starting on February 28, 2022, traffic on Lake Shore Boulevard East between Cherry Street and Carlaw Avenue will be diverted to the north side of the road and the median east of Don Roadway.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
  • Starting February 28, Lake Shore Boulevard East will be reduced to two lanes eastbound and one lane westbound between Cherry Street and Don Roadway.
  • West of Carlaw Avenue to Don Roadway, there will be two westbound lanes. Driving west on Lake Shore Boulevard, approaching Don Roadway, the right lane becomes a dedicated turn lane onto the Don Valley Parkway.
  • Between Don Roadway and Carlaw Avenue, lanes shift to the north, using part of the westbound lanes and the median to provide two eastbound lanes.
  • Lane diversions will be marked using traffic barrels and signage, flagpersons and Paid Duty Officers will help direct traffic where necessary.
This lane configuration will change a few times over the next two years. Updates will be provided through future construction notices.

That was never the plan.

They can't replace the bridge over the river, until the Gardiner there was removed. That only happened recently.
End of Nov was to see the shift and then moved to Dec and then Jan. It wasn't ready Dec 12 when I last shot it and only a week or so from the first date for the move.

All the Gardiner work was done by the end of Nov to allow the shifting of the lanes.
