At the risk of being sued...

I've seen this here many times now. Is speculation on a web forum truly justifiable grounds to sue someone? Like, I get a publication publishing something as fact when it is not, but is a random individual taking a guess subject to a lawsuit?

I just wonder if at this point it's the Crown or the police that are waiting to move on this. The city is in crisis. The wiretaps will be released soon. Hashimi and Mohamed have their plea deals. The time to act is now.

Came across my Twitter:

What is the unthinkable? And why is this video making rounds; thought it was in police custody? (for lack of a better term)

I still think his football team is going to get back into the picture.

If there's a sex tape out there, it's either going to star a hooker or a groupie (not wife or mistress). Ford would never tape it himself, so it would have been taped by a third person for blackmail or because it was a crazy party and kids feel the need to record everything. I've postulated this before, but my money is on some variation of Rob buying hookers for his football players.

I also want to point out how unsavory it is that city councillors and media are having viewing parties of the mayor being horrible while the public at large have to wait at their beck and call.

Makes one wonder if whatever these councillors saw finally pushed them to start speaking out against the Mayor?

1010 has just been playing a weird robocall / poll that includes questions such as "Should Ford resign?", "Would you vote for Ford in 2014 if he had gone to rehab?", "Do you approve or disapprove of the job Bill Blair's has been doing?", "Should Blair resign?", and "Would you vote against your local councillor in 2014 if Ford asked you to?".

That last question especially -- whoa! The hosts are falling over themselves laughing and speculating where, oh where this could have come from.

On Piers Morgan Frank Rich commented that the scandal "makes him want to go to Toronto...it must be a boon for tourism" Rich also said what is happening in Toronto makes Detroit politics look benign. Morgan called it the great political scandal of the year.

Providing a minor with a hooker? That could be a very (I rescind the interesting comment) plausible scenario...

It's still consensual sex (hopefully a willing sex trade worker of proper age) and his player(s) being young men would be gloating about this "happening" (this might be something that Ford enabled and was recorded in video at a football party).

The sex trade worker would be in trouble for statutory rape - Rob would be charged with corrupting a minor... Hmmm.

And I bet half these late to the party yanks don't know who Anthony Smith is. I have to say though, this could end up being on of THE political scandals of modern times.

This is the interesting thing. None of the American reports have picked up on the much wider scandal - they seem to think it is just about smoking crack. No mention of the fact of the three men pictured with Ford outside the crack-den - one was murdered and the other two are behind bars.

If people like "kicked it in the sun" were more inclusive, and treated Scarberians, North Yorkers etc. like fellow Torontonians instead of looking at them based on old, ill-informed stereotypes, the whole city will be better off. THAT is the challenge for the next Mayor and I suspect John Tory will be able to do it much better than Chow.

no, i think not. i live between canada and sf, and i travel widely. i think that most of what's wrong with toronto is rooted in a rah-rah provincialism that achieves its fullest form in the suburbs around toronto, and i despise it an find it embarrassing. i haven't any desire to visit the suburbs, they're ugly and i don't like to drive. i couldn't care less if there's better jamaican or bengali food in some god-forgotten strip mall. etc. i could go on at length, but i don't want to come off as a troll. anyway, as i see it, it would have been a project enough to get toronto proper to evolve into a modern cosmopolitan city without the suburbs, and this is pretty much the urban/suburban divide as i see it. toronto is more administrative district than city; if the megacity is to stay, borough mayors and decentralization ought at least to be brought in.

Yes, basically any cable news coverage south of the border seems to really skim the surface of the story. It's only about the crack, while the true story developing (and what is getting people more upset) is that of criminality. Piers Morgan in particular seemed particularly dim-witted and uninformed, saying he doesn't get why everyone is so concerned about this, and he's heard from so many young people on Twitter that they don't think its a big deal. ugh.
