There is obviously a lot of different stuff going on in the neighbourhood right now. It's been hit hard by the pandemic for various reasons. But I suspect the last few weeks of nightly window smashing is the product of one or two people.

Outside restoration almost complete. The hoarding is coming down or summer is approaching and they want a view.

They blocked an extra lane off on Front St. E. today between Scott and Church for construction. Could the Wellington St. E project be heating up again?

Edit Corrected my my internal

Certainly 49 Front (The W.R. Strickland Building) is looking FAR better, it needed some TLC and seems to have got it.

The City were supposed to be working flat out on Wellington after the fiasco of 2021 - to date they seem to be almost exactly where they got to last June before filling in all the excavations again.

Here is the block in 1970!

So is the guy back on the street breaking more windows or are we talking about more than one person doing this.

Yeah, I saw a video earlier today from one of the businesses, and that did not look like a 63yo dude.

More than one.

Little consequences for breaking windows so multiple people have taken up on the easy opportunity :)

An Update from hat city regarding the Wellington St. ongoing disaster. @DSC might know more how to understand all of this?

“As communicated in past updates, unexpected development work by a private contractor at 49 Front Street, has caused delays for the road and sidewalk work at Front Street East and Church Street. Due to the delays, our contractor has provided a revised construction schedule for Front Street East and Wellington Street East. The revised schedule extends work by approximately one month on Front Street and three weeks on Wellington Street East in certain areas within the construction area. We will continue to provide updates to keep you informed of the contractor's progress.

Front Street East (Church Street to Scott Street)
Work on Front Street East will resume this week, with completion of the sidewalk/road/curb area in front of the Flatiron Building expected by late June. As work progresses on Front Street East, we hope to have patio areas returned for CAFÉ TO installation. Further timeline information will be provided to impacted restaurants as work progresses.

Front Street & Market Street
Work is scheduled to commence in August at this location. This will include underground work, that was deferred until later in the project schedule, to allow for other underground utilities to be installed prior to and to avoid any local power disruptions during the work. Surface level work in this area is expected to be completed with limited local disruption and will not disrupt access to Market Street.

Wellington Street E (Yonge Street to Church Street)
Sidewalk and road construction activities on Wellington Street will continue from Yonge Street, working east towards Church Street. Work on Wellington Street is still on track to be completed by late August, however Café TO installations within the work area will be restricted until work is complete.

CAFÉ TO Applicants
Restaurants that have applied for Café TO permits on Front Street East and Wellington Street East are on hold until construction is completed in the area immediately in front. Our project team will be following up with each applicant in the coming week with the anticipated timing for completion to allow for business decisions to be made by operators.

Upcoming Intersection Closures
A reminder that the Front Street & Church Street intersection will be closed for 10 days during the month of July. Information will be sent out in mid to late June, once closure dates and a traffic management plan are confirmed.

The Wellington Street East & Church Street intersection will be closed for approximately 17 days from late July to early August for TTC track installation. Once dates and traffic management plan are confirmed further information will be sent out via update in early July.”

@DSC is not surprised, the 'management' of this project has been beyond bad, the City's Auditor General is investigating it and I will certainly not be surprised if there are further delays. Many City projects actually work well, this one hasn't.

The City has started marking out the new street lines etc for the extended bike track on The Esplanade (Lower Sherbourne to George) and the new pedestrian crossing road markings. Weather permitted they will paint the lines properly tonight and start installing the barriers. As one might expect, some people in the hood are just waking up to this change and are 'concerned'. Change is always difficult!!
