thanks a lot for those! as always, a bit depressing to see what's become of our urban space. cheap backlit plastic signage has clearly become a massive factor in the junkification of the street scape. the Addition-Elle store is also a particular bummer, given what used to be there. its just a blessing that the hideous 1980's lame pomo tower that it was part of never got built. we dodged a bullet there...

I hate it when old Victorian blocks have ductwork on the facade. It's one of the many ways of cheapening an old block.

Here is a combined then AND now pic. This old business is on Avenue Road just north of Dupont on the west side. It sure looks like it has been there 50 or 60 years ...

Interesting thread. I'm a bit of junkie for this stuff, although I usually end up vacillating between the thrill of seeing the comparison to feeling somewhat depressed at the downfall of many sites around the city.
