The Mayor and various Councillors don't want egg on their faces of a 3rd University plan leaving the city. "Do it now, think later."
This whole thing is idiotic when TMU is building their first Medschool from scratch with a 2025 opening date putting a gun to heads.
The Ski Chalet is grossly inadequate to house a Library especially for an area that's always been underserved compared to west of the 410.

This is just the tip of the iceberg with Howden Rec Centre being pushed out so Bram West can get priority on their project.

Wait, there are only 8 libraries in all of Brampton?! I know the Springdale one is particularly nice (and there might be other standouts) but that's still two-horse town thinking.

Yeah. The libraries are well used in Brampton. Though the smallest branch is larger than the smaller TPL branches, the library system is really spread thin across the city, and there’s no good central reference library, though the Centre for Innovation downtown is supposed to provide that.

Compared to Mississauga, it’s ridiculous.

According to the Brampton Library Board Vice Chair: "The Brampton Public Library is the lowest-funded large urban library system in Ontario, and I think Canada. BPL have an incredibly small footprint per person."

The CFI is badly needed and 5 years have passed with no shovels in the ground, design revisions ongoing. I can't imagine how the next 5-10 years are going to be in Bramalea with a portable Library Ski Chalet housing a dozen book shelves and a handful of tables.
thousands of International students are flooding into the area who fuel demand for these spaces, the average age here is the youngest in the GTA. There is a lot of high density, mid-low income in Bramalea core who need quiet spaces to study and will not have anything nearby. The pre-covid coffee study spaces are decimated, Williams Cafe on Queen st is the last one that exists in the city with large seating.
It's going to be horrible for youth who don't have a learning environment at home and live in precarious situations. Bring a med school, but pretty much stack the deck against anyone in the area to get a shot at entrance to it.

Slightly out of date, from 2018, Canadian Library System stats:

At the time:

Brampton, population 642,000, branches 7
Toronto, population 3,000,000 branches 100
Mississauga, population 770,000 branches 18

Expressed as branches per person:

Toronto 1 branch per 30,000 residents
Mississauga: 1 branch per 42,700 residents
Brampton: 1 branch per 91,700 residents

****

Toronto has 0.62ft2 of library space per resident
Mississauga has 0.45ft2 of library space per resident
Brampton has 0.31ft2 of library space per resident.

Plenty of Drama happening over this project.

TMU shot back with a harshly toned letter that complicates relationships and IMO shouldn't have gone out.

Jaipaul Singh-Massey of the Brampton Library responded professionally at council and was only making council aware of the extra costs/impacts in the move and seeking a commitment for long term plans of the Library with a newer facility covered below.

TMU's response here is tone-deaf at best.......and I would otherwise argue entirely inappropriate.

People wishing to voice their concern may wish to contact the above, undersigned President of TMU.

I would like to report that already many students are using https://papersowl.com/examples/the-nurse-and-friar-laurence-are-responsible-for-romeo-and-juliets-death/ because this seems to be the best source to make writings, I personally with the help of this managed to write a complaint on the building administration and now I am in error, because the questions were asked in such a way that they do not know what to answer and are going to stop the construction. By the way from here I managed to find out a lot about The Nurse and Friar and what they have in common, there are many interesting writings here.

That's how it always happens, I mean you can't complain about this issue and TMU doesn't care about others.
Any more news from them?

Library had a Board meeting last week.
Here's some notes from @SaveChing on Twitter

Highlights from Today's Library Board Meeting: Jaipual Massey-Singh updates response to letter from Library board, feels like the letter was successful Next up Todd Kyle CEO provides update on actions since last meeting 1/

Todd Kyle comments on the letter sent by TMU about their "concerns", Kyle says library will continue on path they were already on Timeline, Move in May, Move in June, Move of public branch in July 2/

Library has been in touch with the firm that worked on the Library master plan for an update, will also require an update of Recreation Master plan Radha Tailor asks for an update on relocation cost, final cost not yet know but there is a number internally 3/

Massey-Singh asks for clarification on timeline says staff were concerned as they didn't have clear timeline Kyle-City has been giving Library shorter leases in the past few years than normal, lease for ching was meant to expire in 2024, the lease had a clause for eviction 4/

City staff were unable to provide reasoning for shorter leases, (is it possible this was in the works for a few years) Library was not made aware Mary Ann Allin asks about the letter from TMU, did Library respond regarding the quote "unease" in the letter 5/

Todd Kyle, says library didn't respond as letter wasn't directly addressed to Library, says library doesn't recall making the statements in the letter, media asked TMU for direct examples they could not provide any 6/

Massey-Singh address community response, number of emails and phone calls about concerns from community, library is removing signage put up by community members due to library polices. Front line branch staff hearing concerns 7/

Massey-Singh asks how library is responding? Kyle responds maybe FAQs can be updated, staff getting lots of questions from community, printed FAQ now at branch desk 8/

Library is working through the questions, Massey-Singh says, wants to ensure council is going to remain supportive doesn't want to upset the process. 9/

TMU also announced a Townhall on May 8th at 5PM via ZOOM except residents can't actually submit questions from the form provided.

I know this is a bit of a tangent comment, it's important to see the consequences of the TMU Medschool on the community:
Here are some pictures of the significantly downsized relocated Library to the Ski Chalet in Chinguacousy Park.

Second Floor:

It’s an okay size for a neighbourhood branch, but certainly not for a district/resource branch that Chinguacousy was. The accessibility by transit and by foot is far inferior as well.

Proposed work for renovating the old civic centre. The mention of a public clinic is promising – hopefully it will be a family health team with medical interns and residents.

150 Central Park Drive
The following renovations and upgrades are proposed for the 150 Central Park project.

- Replace the existing single pane windows to double glazed on the south wing of the building.
- Reconfiguring the window to wall ratio at the south wing of the building. Re-cladding the south wing of the building to improve energy performance.
- Replacing 8 existing drop off parking spaces with 2 lay by spaces for clinic drop off.
- Addition of new windows to the north façade to allow natural light in the space.
- Repairing damaged concrete at the north ramp and stairs.
- Repainting the existing metal enclosure at the mechanical penthouse.
- Re-cladding and re-glazing the main entrance canopy. Providing entrance canopies at the north and south entrances to provide temporary shelter.
- Regrading the main entry plaza to provide sloped walkways, improved stair access, and terraced seating, as well as improving the landscaping with various tree species.
