There is a huge amount of midrise activity on Queen St. E right now, more than I can think of anywhere else in the city.

Also, if a few more planned projects get going, Dupont and St. Clair W are probably in a similar league.

Why not build higher than a mere 6 stories if there is going to be a subway here?

Subway will be over by Pape. Close but no cigar. You don't have to go higher in this location anyway... there's plenty of infill going on up and down this stretch and doubtless more in the hopper, not too far down the road. The scale of what's been happening along this part of Queen East has been pretty decent. Mid-rise, nicely bulked up but not daunting or wildly overpowering the low-rise residential and commercial in the immediate vicinity.
