This is the building formerly occupied by Quiznos, Let's Be Frank and the Car Wash.
A zoning application was made on this property a year and a half ago to make this into a LCBO store, most likely to replace the one on King and Spadina which will be turned into condos.

Well, we can all look forward to the banal one-story beige box that's to come, then. :/

The Global Village Backpackers property would have been a great space for an LCBO. People hate having to go far to pick up alcohol.

Close, not 1s but 3s

5,308m2 proposed development is located just west of Bathurst Street along King Street, and consists of 2 levels of retail above grade, a restaurant and north facing terrace at the third level, and 1 level of retail below grade. The development replaces the existing 1209m2 1-storey retail store and carwash that currently occupies the property. The new development proposes to match the existing building in maintaining the zero lot line setbacks on all sides.

It's 55,000 square feet of retail and not condos. They'll do fine if they get it leased.

Christ. $17.1m for land to build a three-storey retail building? That hardly seems possible...

Agreed. Some thoughts - first of all, a soil sampling rig was recently drilling on the driveway of Freda clothing store around the corner, at 86 Bathurst. I believe the west end of the driveway property would abut the back end of the 689 King Street property - some while it may be a totally unrelated activity, it is also possible that there may be a larger land assembly under way here.

The proposed three storey building may be an interim holding use, to obtain a more reasonable income until a larger scale project is ready to proceed, akin to the temporary LCBO store at King & Spadina. Secondly, the three story office / retail building immediately to the east may be a reasonable inclusion in any project (I have no specific knowledge one way or the other) - but existing lease commitments prevent its immediate redevelopment.

One way or another, I do not think that the proposed three storey development on just this portion of land is going to be the end of the story. To me, the only things which are a given are the west boundary of the property is fixed, it abuts the Summit condominium complex, and for sure, the Wheatsheaf tavern is not going anywhere.

Sounds like they may already have tenants lined up. A restaurant with a patio on the 3rd floor sounds very specific, and be very hard to find a tenant.
A LCBO on the ground floor may be still likely.

An option under review. They are in talks with The Summit to have access to their drive way to establish a loading dock area.

This was brought up at the last condo board meeting. Already some board members are in favour (thinking) of it because of monies being exchange for this access. IMO this would cause terrible gridlock in our driveway so am not in favour of it.

I guess having Bike Share Toronto located right outside the LCBO is a better choice than say Zipcar...

So @Red Mars , did the condo board ever vote on this issue? If so, do you know what the result was?
