That concrete core is much, much more massive and stronger when one compares the core used in the old World Trade Center in NYC. Concrete not drywall around the stairs.
 
The WTC twin towers didn't have a concrete core. The majority of its support came from the outside load bearing walls - inside was just a steel mesh instead of a concrete core.

I was struggling to see what you guys were talking about, but I think I see it now. The newly constructed floor (on the right of the last photo) has a little addition that protrudes slightly from the edge. It looks like it will lead up to the apex of one of the diamond facets. Neat.

Is that the start of a diamond shape I see ?
Yes it is!
