new user here. Is there any possibility the LRT continues to Brampton GO station as originally planned. I know it has been debated by city council but is it on the table in the future? Ending at Hurontario/Steeles is so abrupt.

There is a Brampton Transit Advisory Committee meeting tonight. It will be livestreamed.

@Wm Perkins Bull posted the agenda and presentation deck to the Zum thread, but it also mentions the Hurontario LRT and the Main Street LRT EA. Material here and screenshots below.

Welcome to UT.

Yes, there is a possibility. Much debate may ensue on the likelihood. Brampton Council voted 11-0 in December 2018 to restore LRT for the Main Street corridor from Steeles to Brampton GO. Exact text of motion here.

Background: even before the December 2018 decision and after the October 2015 prior Council decision, Metrolinx included a reference to the corridor in its 2041 Regional Transportation Plan). Metrolinx then referenced it in its February 2020 "Advancing Transit Priorities" document. The City also commented on that document here.

The City has also included LRT for Main Street (aka Hurontario LRT Extension) in its meetings with ministers at the Association of Ontario Municipalities (AMO) (see here) and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).

The City then started an EA (or EA addendum since the previous EA was still valid) and the project page is here: https://www.brampton.ca/EN/resident...truction/LRTExtensionStudy/Pages/Welcome.aspx

Council will then be presented with a key decision in 2021: surface all the way, or a tunnel from roughly Nanwood to Brampton GO. There are sub-options for both. It's covered in the "documents" section in the above link. The funding from the province and federal government would be required, so the Council decision is an "ask", similar to what other municipalities have done over years.

If you want to watch tonight's committee meeting (http://video.isilive.ca/brampton/live.html), staff will reference the current status of the study. You can also submit questions on this or anything else covered in the meeting to the Clerk (City.ClerksOffice@brampton.ca) and they will be answered during public question period at the end.

The Hurontario LRT Engage page is up: https://www.metrolinxengage.com/en/engagement-initiatives/hurontario-light-rail-transit-project

Progress Update:

Construction zone map shows the Fairview stop at Fairview Road instead of Central Parkway:

Regarding Brampton Gateway from the FAQ:
"If Brampton Gateway is the last stop, why is construction going past Steeles?"

The LRT track work will end at Steeles, however, the small portion of work north of Steeles is to facilitate the lane shifting and transition. Currently there are three active lanes northbound and southbound on Hurontario. The number of lanes will be reduced to two northbound and southbound when the LRT guideway is constructed.

Temporary bus platforms at Matheson and Milverton/Watline:

That's odd. Why would they not put a stop in the area between Elm and Central Parkway? There are a lot of apartment buildings in that area. Also, Burnhamthorpe and Robert Speck are spaced too close together. I'm assuming it's artistic license?

Construction and lane shifting underway south of Matheson going north in the northbound lanes considering this wasn't to be the first area to see construction. Lanes 1-3 out of service with 2 lanes in both direction. Fences place next to the sidewalk as well across all 3 close lanes. Waterline work is to take place first.

miWay northbound stop is in lane 1, fence off and has a wood platform as noted above.

Centre traffic light and median being remove.

The most dumb idea of removing Central Parkway and moving 2 stops, considering they will see far less ridership than one a Elm. Robert Speck is there due the landowners for the office towers who put up a fight to have it there.

What the hell!? Why did they move the stop from Rathburn? That should be the most crucial station to the entire line, since it would connect with the Mississauga Transitway and the GO bus station. Robert Speck is a minute walk away from Burnhamthorpe. This ridiculous landowner meddling to put extra stops where they're not needed has got to stop. At least Aga Khan Park and Museum didn't replace a stop at Don Mills or Leslie...

I think the intern that made this map left out stops by accident or something, the map on the project website still has all the stations. I can't even think they would eliminate, stops for City centre and Cooksville GO..

Just received a response from the Metrolinx Community Relations Specialist concerning the Fairview LRT stop. According to them, It will be located at the intersection of Fairview Road and Hurontario. Not sure why they would put it there. So close to the Cooksville stop no density and no demand.
