It definitely wasn't an issue with your photography skills - all of the art on the courthouse ground is incredibly mundane and literal.

Totally literal, but I kind of like that with the “law books”, given the context. The message being blatant was important, in my view. It’s less about art, and all about statement and reinforcement of values. It was the only art in the square that appealed to me though, to your point.
