Filling in. Looks like the old dock wall removal work is done.

This had fallen off my radar. I thought they were only doing a road and walkway realignment, are they going to build the full wave deck and piers right away? Kind of looks like that from the site prep.
The road and utilities are what is happening now (and for next year or so). I have seen no definitive dates for adding the wave deck etc but the new pedestrian bridge is, supposedly, getting erected in 2026 so they WILL need to do 'something' so people can reach and use it. A good question to ask at the WT Open Night on Thursday!!

I was there today and it looks to me as though they are building a (temporary) trail from the east side of Parliament Slip to the Martin Goodman. I suspect they may be closing the Martin Goodman just west of Parliament while they work on the duct bank etc.

We shall see!

They have been leveling out the terrain and piling up the soil (to remove any methane and possibly await removal?)

The mounds are almost 6 feet high and arranged pretty neatly.

Remove methane??? I had never heard this before and suspect it's not true. If methane were being 'squeezed out' I think they would need to be collecting it (greenhouse gas, and all that). Also, not sure if there is methane in this area, it was never (I think) a garbage dump. If anything is being squeezed it might be water as most of this area was, not long ago, below the lake. However, I guess we will find out and will discover if they are creating a diversion for the Martin Goodman so they can do more work on the Parliament Slip and QQE extension.

It was a question. 😅 There are posts stuck in the mounds of soil all over the mounds. I changed the format of the sentence slightly in case it was causing confusion.

I know the old dock wall used to be along that stretch, where I think the mound is specifically (or partially?), so maybe it's a soil compacting sorta thing? That seems like an excessively large amount of soil to pile over it, if so.

What a weird place to put a bike share. This is literally where the QQ East extension is going to go through the Parliament Slip.

Why didn't they just put it beside the community centre, 50 feet away?

At least it can be moved easily.

It has been there for at least two years but I agree it will need to move before long as work on the QQE extension proceeds in that area. The Bike Share docks are actually fairly easy to move and they get shifted around all the time to accommodate road repairs, utility work etc.

There’s been a lot of weird decisions on behalf of a Bike Share I’d love some answers and data on, but this one has made a lot of sense.

You’ve got to consider that the ride is 30min before you get overcharged, so on a large and widely used bike path like this- it’s not just about starting or terminating a trip, but clocking in before your 30min so you can, take the bike out again and continue.

I’ve done this numerous times either coming from the Port lands heading west, or having lost track of time coming east. So I hope they keep this outside the community centre at least.

Sadly, Bike Share seems to have stopped circulating bikes now, so like many stations in the area it’s just storage. Here’s 27 bikes and no empty slots, enjoy going 1km out of your way while you get dinged with an overage fee and a walk home that makes you question why you bothered with bike share in the first place.

This one’s been almost permanently filled for a couple months now, which sucks because Bike Share also stopped freeing up spots around the Distillery, and aren’t doing valet during the Xmas market. So this was at least an option to park.

I’ve gotten into the habit of taking a bike lock with me because there are either zero racks available where I’m going or it’s just known that the rack that IS there never has a single empty slot.

Honestly, the Bike Share is a victim of its own success, IMO.
