I don't understand the point of this thing....
Other than the misleading name, what is there to be confused about?
It's a site for summer outdoor music festival type of events.

They need to come up with a different name -- one that's not "Stadium" and makes it more clear about what it is, and won't lead to people confusing it with the baseball stadium.
Edit: "Rogers Music Park", "Rogers Park", and "Rogers MusicFest" are some suggestions others have mentioned to me, that might fit.

Another edit: If people who live here are already confused by the name, I would guess it will be even worse for visitors.
A conversation I had this morning, after the Rogers Centre shows this weekend had been mentioned:
Them: "I'm going to see Oasis there in the summer."
Me: "No, Oasis will be at Rogers Stadium, in Downsview."
Them: "It isn't in Downsview. It's where the Blue Jays play."
Me: "That's Rogers Centre. Rogers Stadium will be the new venue being set-up in Downsview."
Them: "They just renovated the stadium, and I think I would have heard about it if they were moving to Downsview."

There are many good reasons for Live Nation and Rogers to build this, and for Northcrest to allow it, even if temporary:
  • Allows Northcrest to get some rental income while they work on the YZD development plans, which will take many years to finalize and many more to implement.
  • Allows Live Nation to capture revenue from the demand associated with the recent concert boom, moreso than they would with other Live Nation venues in Toronto.
  • Allows both Rogers and Live Nation to test demand for a permanent 50,000+ seat entertainment venue in Toronto, for both practical reasons (attracting more large concerts, which are major revenue generators) and less concrete potential reasons (read up about the heavily speculated Rogers NFL ambitions, it has been discussed enough as it is). While I am not saying either of these things will happen, if they wanted it to happen though, this would be the best way to test demand.
  • Allows for greater flexibility in the interim for baseball scheduling at Rogers Centre by diverting potential concerts to Rogers Stadium instead, as well as for providing an alternative Live Nation venue to replace Budweiser Stage while those renovations/expansion works are underway.

I agree, but it's all a marketing ploy obviously. The reason why it's Rogers Arena and Rogers Place and Rogers Stadium is so Rogers is keyed in as a search term at every attempt. It's to maximize branding as well as keystroke searches. There's no point in buying the naming rights from a company perspective if people can call it something unique like SkyDome without the corporate name attached. They do this so that when you ask where the Taylor Swift concert is you have to say "Rogers" in the answer to some degree.
