Whoa not sure how I missed this one, I can't wait to see full renders and plans this is exciting! Hope to see a new tower fill the old YMCA's spot. A new YMCA would be huge welcome news for downtown.

The 2025 Federal Budget mentions this project directly, of all things:

A couple of news articles on the announcement:

The new 55,000sf YMCA will apparently cost $70 million, and they have applied for a $25 million grant from the Feds.

The existing 174 bed shelter space in the current YMCA would not be replaced in the new building, though the YMCA is looking to shift that capacity elsewhere in the City's shelter network.

The residential component of the development is proposed as a 600+ unit Co-op housing building - a relatively unique model which will also likely require significant Federal funding.

No applications filed with the City yet.

I can't tell if the federal government support is meant for the YMCA part only or for the entire development.

I guess it doesn't really matter ---- I just want to know if it is enough to give the green light for full construction.

In Hamilton the best you can hope for is that staff recognize what’s infront of them so no one else has to give the green light after an inordinate amount of time.

That said, it’s not like Collecdev-Markee is headed by someone unacquainted with the pains of municipal process. And newcomers here seem to have better luck if anything.

Assuming there isn’t some fast track to bypass the city of course- this doesn’t scream MZO.
