TransEd has ordered 26 Bombardier Flexity seven-section cars, of which one arrived last year. They are being built at the Millhaven, Ontario plant, about 200 miles east of Toronto. Nine LRVs are expected in 2019, with the remaining 16 in 2020.

The Flexities are using Pans on Bathurst (atleast North of Bloor).. although the underpass is now a restricted speed zone because the Panto has to "bend" to fit under the bridge.

Is there a timeline for when Bathurst will be all-panto, or when Flexities will be on it full-time? It seems to be a mix of buses and Flexities right now, and I still occasionally see poles in use northbound from Bloor.

I don't believe so. In 2020, after all Flexities on order have been delivered, TTC is short about 30 vehicles to service all routes as the option for 60 more vehicles was not exercised. Peak period buses are going to a feature on some routes for a long time. Expect buses at some times of the day on Bathurst and College until at least ~2025; later if funding is not approved this year.

For pantographs, all lines will support pantographs by end of 2020. Trolly pole use will be minimal after that point, likely only used when the pantograph has a mechanical failure.

511 Bathurst has been 100% bus since Labour Day 2018. Any streetcars on there are running up to Hillcrest or St. Clair.

In the most recent CEO report (mentioned a few posts up by Drum) it says that the plan is that 511 is the next to get Flexities after the central section of 501, this summer. Followed by 506 later in 2019 and then finally 505 in early 2020, with 502/503 deferred.

Expect buses at some times of the day on Bathurst and College until at least ~2025; later if funding is not approved this year.

Not sure what the basis for that is - for Bathurst at least. There's hints in the recent report that it's the end-of-the-line for streetcars on Kingston Road - but surely Bathurst will be quickly switched to Flexity, only requiring 10 Flexity cars.

Also, looking at the older 2019 deployment plans, they need 216 cars for full deployment at peak with 20% spares. With the decision to not run on Kingston Road, that removes the need for 11 cars, so they only need 203 cars with 20% spares ... or 198 cars with 17% spares.

Which means they can have 6 of the 204 car fleet off for warranty repairs, and be able to run a full service without Kingston Road.

It's tragic they didn't pick up even 20 extra cars (let alone 60).

A guess. Bathurst has regularly received bus assistance at various points over the last 20 years; always seemed the lower priority route.

It'll be interesting to see how Queen is handled with Ontario Line construction. That Yonge to University segment is likely critical path; so service will be adjusted for ~6 years.

I'm not sure that one can even begin to consider such unfunded hypotheticals - the whole thing could still be elevated monorail down Richmond for all we know. Plenty of ways to do long-term diversions of streetcars if necessary utilizing Richmond and/or Adelaide if they have to rip up Queen.

You only got a short section on Richmond that it would be by King from the Don to Church going west. Have to rebuilt Adelaide from Spadina to Victoria for eastbound, then to Church and by King to the Don.

If you are going elevated on Richmond, going to need bent supports on the sidewalk. Having centre support would require a lane of traffic to be remove as well TTC tracks. Gardiner Expressway look.

There is another car at Hillcrest to be off loaded, but no number.

Word from a few sources are saying TTC staff at the carhouses are under man and why things are taking longer to get cars back into service or doing their testing to become a TTC car. Its also a reason the current fleet is to be scrap sooner than later, regardless more cars are needed for service beyond 2020.

The failure rate for the new fleet is a big issues with some finger pointing at TTC. TTC only plays a with a few % points, but the rest is BBD problem since they design it and built them. TTC spec that has yet to be achieve by car 60 under the contract. We are at 144 in service and still less than 15,000 when the contract call for 35,000. Also why TTC has a high spare ratio, compare to 10% for the first 10 year.

4541 dose a few trips and back in the service bay for a day or more and then does it all over again. It currently on Gerard 506 in the east end at this time. The other 2 in the service bay.
