It has been exactly three months since a drone-captured video last gave us insight into the state of construction at the site of the new Foster + Partners-designed Apple Campus taking shape in Cupertino, part of the larger San Francisco-Oakland Bay Area. In the time since our last update, much progress has been made on the site and an updated aerial video captured by Duncan Sinfield is revealing the significant changes the 175-acre site has undergone in just 90 days.
The video begins with an overall aerial view of the site before focusing in on the four-storey 'spaceship' section, the main structure of the donut-shaped campus, at 0:22. At 0:32 the camera pans to reveal the man-made landform informally known as Mt. Apple, and the campus’ multi-level parking structures which have grown significantly since our last update and are both topped off.
At 1:18, the drone hovers above the top of Mt. Apple for a view of the main building before closing in on the below-grade 1,000-seat auditorium taking shape at 1:43. At the 2:22 mark, the concrete superstructure of the Tantau R&D facilities can be seen rising next to the multi-level parking garages.
Located approximately one mile east of Apple's current headquarters, the new 2.8-million-square-foot facility started construction in 2014 and is expected to be completed in late 2016. The campus will eventually be occupied by up to 12,000 employees.
